I find it a little odd now that vaccines for the virus are being distributed in the UK and US; a new strain of the virus has been allegedly discovered in the UK. This new strain has resulted in the government there initiating even tougher lockdowns in the parts of the country where it is spreading quickly.

What are we to believe anymore? Is this nothing more than an attempt to destroy economies to make people more dependent upon their government or is it real?

This strain is apparently 70 percent more transmissible, but not any more deadly. It is NOT a significant enough mutation to defeat the vaccine.
