Never Again!

Well, we went to Monster Jam Saturday and here is my review...

Nothing against the big trucks or the drivers or the staff of the Georgia Dome. Monster Jam, the occasional Falcons and and maybe a Braves game or two is all I can put up with. It's the drive and the crowds that get under my skin. But after Saturday night....NEVER AGAIN!

First off, we left in plenty of time. 5:15 pm. The event was not scheduled to start until 7 pm. I wasn't certain about the location of the specific parking lot, but no problem. GPS will tell us where to go. NOT SO FAST! Many of the streets were converted to ONE WAY and we couldn't get to the lot using GPS. I just don't recall it being that bad in times past. Anyway, after being diverted and turned around three or four times in the deadlocked traffic, we didn't get parked until 6:50 pm.

Then the rain came and we had to wait through a literal mob to get in the dome entrance. We had coats and everyone except for me had a hoodie. I was SOAKED by the time we got in the building and the event had already started. Ok, now we're good. NOT SO FAST! When we find our seats, we were one short. The goofy looking dude next to the inside seat finally confessed to his equally goofy looking teenage kid as being in one of them. He moved back a row and I took the inside seat to keep Mrs. Colson and Daughter Colson from having to sit next to a stranger.

And a stranger he was in more than one respect. #1 - He was drunk #2 - He was loud (and that's saying a lot at a monster truck show) #3 he was very much overweight. That's fine until you sit spread legged the entire time and taking up half my space...which isn't much space to begin with. #4 He was the most redneckish individual I have ever encountered. I mean, really, really bad to the point of making Larry the Cable Guy look like Lord Grantham of Downton Abby. And number 5 - He wouldn't shut up about wanting to bet me who would win the next race. It got to the point where I had to YELL over the roar of the engines that he needed to let it GO! My next step was to hunt down security.

I had always enjoyed the Monster Truck rallys. I guess we've been to about 3 previously. No problem. It's typically good family fun, but after the traffic going down, coming back, the rain and Mr. Obnoxious, I have vowed never to return. Daughter Colson and Mrs. Colson offered to switch seats with me, but I sternly refused, telling them that if we did so and he made ONE SINGLE comment to either of them, I'd have to punch the idiot's teeth down his throat.

The event will be televised on Jan 17th. I believe on the SPEED channel. I'm going to watch it so I can actually enjoy it this time. Don't you just hate going to an event and being miserable? I forced a smile in this photo, but only because I was fantasizing about a murder. :Ninja :BH

We always take Marta when we go to an event downtown. It may take a little longer if everything went perfectly with a drive, but how often does everything go perfectly with a drive downtown to a stadium filled with 30,000 people? My blood pressure just won't stand it.

I thought I was the only one who got to sit next to the free entertainment at these sorts of things. Man I hate a loud drunk seat mate.

I went to my last event downtown earlier in the year. The event was fine, it was the getting to and from that broke the deal. I can watch it on tv (for free) or stream it from the internet. Just not worth it anymore. Now a Braves game, I can handle that one. We have a certain spot where we park every time, just across front the entrance gate, $20 and I'm in the door within 5 minutes. I may try one game at the new stadium but they'll have to improve their product first. I don't make a habit on spending good money on poor products.

MAN, she looks just like your wife! Cute pic.

And this is exactly why I don't do downtown events any longer. Just can't handle the crap. The ONLY thing I might to into town for is the Fox or The High/Symphony Hall, and that's because I have mad parking skillz and know where to go for what. Also, those are in Midtown.

I am SOOOOO not interested in going to a major league sports thing. I don't even like the Rome Braves, but that's usually because a) they're really awful, and 2) it's usually like 114 degrees in the hot sun. I do enjoy the Gladiators hockey games, even though they're also awful, but even bad hockey is fun to me. And the venue (Gwinnett Arena) just cannot be beat...safe, clean, FREE parking, easy access to interstate. The only drawback is it's in East Egypt and I'm in NW Italy. Or something.

We've been to a few Gladiator games too. We normally take our grandson to the Teddy Bear drop...and we stop by Krispy Kreme on the way home.

Son and husband usually do Marta for the basketball games. Son also has his parking pass downtown so many times he parks in his school spot, and grabs the Trolley (free to him) to Centennial Park to go to different events or attractions.
