Need some advice

I think I need a new water heater. ::)

My children take long showers and baths. HOWSOMEEVER! These days if one takes a long bath or shower they run out of hot water before the next one can shower.

For the record, my husband and I can shower (separately) in the mornings and rarely face this issue.

Is that a repairable problem or should we just suck it up and go get a new one?

If I have to buy a new one, any recommendations?

You have two options.

(1) Buy a bigger tank
(2) Get a second tank

We have an 80 gallon and by the third shower, we're out but that rarely happens. We've learned to tell the kids to take theirs at different times than us.

We also keep it set at 140 degrees so that may be a reason it lasts a little longer too.

Just as GD said, you may have an element that has gone bad too. You can do that repair yourself. I have a name and number if you need a new one.

Changing an element is fairly easy, but if the tank is older than 10-12 years it might not be worth it.

They have two elements, one might be out. Not hard to change them as long as the heater is sound. How old is it?

I'm not sure how old it is. We've been in the house 6 1/2 years.

Low-flow shower heads are your friend.

We have an adults shower in the morning, kids at night routine. :)) When we first moved here I could wash clothes and someone else shower at the same time.

Hmmm, I didn't think to check the temp. Is it possible the knob got bumped and that's the problem?

We did the low-flow switch during the drought a few years ago.
I bet you have an element out. I have a plumber buddy if you need one.

I may need that. :)) My husband is a great mechanic, but not so much with household stuff. (Don't you DARE repeat that! :p ) I'll talk with him about it and see if he thinks he can do it. I know someone who does almost everything, except plumbing.
