My butt is draggin'

I worked hard all day Saturday, spreading gravel and rebuilding a walkway. Worked all day yesterday installing my next generation air conditioner / pool heater. Then stayed up and did my PPP application.

I'm whipped!

My one day off. I slept until 1:30 PM

I bet I will fall asleep again. Last week and the week before were over 80 hour, 6 day weeks. Limited staff, over seeing a new roof, and remodel of the hotel ...while working as the only one at the front desk. My Owner said to expect 14 to 16 hours days 6 or 7 days a week with no staff or more pay.

I think after I have the remodel on my resume, I will find a new company. This shit is wrong. As the owner and son self quarrenteen at home, unwilling to meet with the contractor. :tapfoot2:

Neither the contractor nor myself had the meetings with the architect/designer, nor were we provided a blueprint. Contractor keeps asking me questions to things I was never included in any memos, plans, or final decisions. Awkward. I ask the son, he says ask my dad, the dad says for the son to tell me. What a colossal waste of time.

My brother pointed out I often work like a dog for companies who pay me shit for my hard work... guilty as charged. Plus, I only have 6 days of vacation... up from 5 the first year... AND I am the General Manager! I usually don't care about vacations, thus I did not negotiate for three weeks like most normal people would. I went to visit my kids in February (we all met at oldest son's house,) I had not realized how much I missed actually spending time with them.

We talk all the time... not the same though.:tissue: Hadn't seen them all together since my son was married in 2014. My kids live in different states, so the only way to see them is to have enough time to travel to their homes. Oh, and Hawaii just happens to be where my other son and the rest of my family live!!!!!!!!

Rant over... loving the sleep... having a pity party for how stupid I am. Me to myself :fight3:...however I STILL have a paycheck... for now at least.

Well maybe this will help for now, just be thankful you’re still working but I’m sure you already realize that. One of my first bosses said it best, and I never forgot it. An employer will not pay you what you’re worth, only the minimum it takes to keep you working there; but they will keep adding work responsibility until they find your breaking point. As bad as that sounds I’ve seen it hold true many many times.

Yes, I feel fortunate to work for and employer/businessman who pays all the bills on time, upgrades the properties as needed.

Almost 30 years ago, I worked part time for a company that the collectors were constantly calling because the company had not paid their invoices. Even the owner's mother, who was a supplier, would not give him his order unless he paid in advance for it. I swore I would never work for that type of company again.

I am lucky to have a company that financially has some depth to it, and does not have large amounts of debt. They are going forward with a remodel and a new roof, getting it out of the way, so that once business/tourism is back we will be all new and shiny...

I am lucky to have a paycheck, they need me right now to keep all the balls in the air while they self quarantine at home.

I will move on to somewhere that I negotiate better salary and benefits. I took this job knowing I would have a chance to learn, gain more experience, and pad my resume. There are several things I have since realized that, at my expense, I have far too many unpaid hours that are required to get done what they throw on my plate. I will take my experience elsewhere after the economy has started back up. Who knows, if this corona thing goes on too much longer, they might have to come back and work in the hotel like they did in the 90's when they first built it, eliminating my position all together.
