More ugliness from the left

That is just dumb. Punish the kids for Trump completing a project that the city could not, and that you have used for years. All because you are mad he won. I do not get that line of thinking.

Exactly! I understand some people being upset that Trump won. Heck, I have some issues with the guy too. But the hate spewing from the left is way out of line.

Even if you hate the guy... the fact that your city could not get the job done... he did... the school/and community has had the opportunity to use
it for 30 years... not sure it will economically impact Trump... but if they want to Fire Trump and not support him that is their choice.

This sentence says a lot...
"Trump renovated the rink in 1986 after the city fumbled the job for six years."

Several articles... I knew nothing about Wollman Rink other than seeing it is movies as a beautiful part of NY :dunno:

Saving Wollman Rink made Trump a New York City hero

The Wollman Rink, opened in 1949, was a beloved Manhattan postcard icon. It appeared in countless movies, including “Love Story.” But it was falling apart, and then-Mayor Ed Koch closed it in 1980.

The city promised to reopen it by 1985. But Koch’s incompetent commissioners and contractors let the job run $12 million over its original $4.7 million budget, and by 1986, the finish line was nowhere in sight.

Enter Trump. The young Trump Tower developer was known more for self-promotion and for an ugly, name-calling feud with Koch over tax abatements and zoning rules.

In June 1986, Trump brashly offered to reopen the rink before Christmas. “If Koch doesn’t like this offer,” Trump said, “then let him have the same people who have built it for the last six years do it for the next six years.”

Koch held his nose and gave Trump the keys. Trump got the ice rink reopened to the public on Nov. 1. Maybe any able construction company could have done the same. But Trump’s success was a tonic to a crime-torn, crumbling city that needed some good news. It showed how private enterprise could handily whip government bureaucracy.

TRUMP REPORTS LARGE PROFIT FROM WOLLMAN RINK
By ANDREW ROSENTHAL
Published: April 1, 1987

New Yorkers were grateful when Donald J. Trump finished ahead of schedule and under budget in renovating the Wollman Memorial Rink, where the city had spent six years and $12 million trying to produce ice.

But even the Trump Organization, which controls a network of real estate developments and management corporations, did not expect to make a profit.

Mr. Trump said it had made a profit of about $500,000 on $1.5 million in receipts since re-opening in November. The money will go to several charities and will be used for public works projects. Profit a Pleasant Surprise

The executive vice president of the Trump Organization, Anthony B. Gliedman, who ran the renovation project, said the profit was about $450,000 to $500,000.

But the Parks Commissioner, Henry J. Stern, was more conservative, saying he thought the profit was about $400,000, although neither the Trump Organization nor the city Department of Parks and Recreation have final figures on the number of people who used the rink.

All three did agree that the profit was a pleasant surprise.

According to the Trump Organization, it spent $1 million to operate the skating rink since November. As part of its agreement with the city, besides giving most of its profit to charities and public works projects, the organization will also reimburse the city $50,000 for electricity use. In addition, some of the money will be given to the parks department.

The organization has already set aside $200,000 for three charities in New York City, a public works project and the rink's electric bill.

The remainder will be distributed by the city and the Trump Organization once a total has been made.

''It's so much beyond any expectation,'' said an ebullient Mr. Trump, who had said that he had hoped to just break even or turn a modest profit of about $100,000. ''This is a little different ending than most city stories.''

Mr. Stern agreed that the rink was ''enormously successful.'' Record Admissions

They're so blinded by hate that they can't see that the man invested in his...and their...community. He used his wealth to bring happiness and fun activities to that community. I would think some appreciation is in order, even if they aren't supporters.

Wow... how come Trump's campaign did not run this during the elections... this humanizes some of his idiosyncrasies.
