Moderna vaccine study shows at least six months protection (the length of the study)

BOSTON – New research suggests the protection the Moderna vaccine gives against COVID-19 lasts for at least six months.

The report Tuesday in the New England Journal of Medicine echoes what Pfizer said last week about its vaccine, which works in a similar way.

Both reports were based on follow-up tests in dozens of people who received the shots during studies that led to the vaccines’ use. Those studies were done before troubling new variants, or versions of the coronavirus, had emerged and started to spread.

A separate report in the medical journal adds to concern about the variants. Scientists measured antibodies that can block the virus in 50 people who had been given the Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines that were developed in China. Many showed total or partial loss of effectiveness against a virus variant first detected in South Africa.

The vaccines still seemed to protect against a variant first found in the United Kingdom that is now rapidly spreading in the United States and elsewhere.

Pfizer and Moderna have said they are working to update their vaccines, or possibly design a booster shot, in case they’re needed against variants.

Many of the original study participants are at about a year and still appear to have immunity even though they are not the subjects of a study. Always remember, just because something hasn't been proven to be true, doesn't mean it's false. So far (fingers crossed) things are.looking very good for continued efficacy.

Make no mistake, it will never end now. Soon there will be another monster which will require another treatment. The cats out of the bag.

Yup! They have figured out how to control the masses. I saw plenty of formerly logical and conservatively minded people surrender to the gods of COVID.

where do I wear a mask ?

let's see.... to the grocery store (but not for much longer)

that's about it.

I personally think they are about as effective as a screen door on a submarine.

If you are vaccinated, it is absolutely symbolism. People up here are kind of...odd. Once it got bad folks started to mask, but that is "tentatively".. I will continue to.mask in Wally World and the grocery, where there are lots of people. It is indeed to keep it up until more are vaccinated. A lot of older folks had problems getting appointments but should be covered soon.

Esp for someone like me who has a beard. All the mask is doing is keeping sneezes and coughs from directly launching large quantities of stuff into the air.

I'm old enough to remember "2 weeks to flatten the curve". That turned into a full takeover of our economy and lifestyle. It's time to lose the mask and reclaim our basic human rights.

I ditched the masks last month.

I went along with this nonsense for an entire year, just to be nice and make people feel better.

I can see the detrimental dehumanizing effect this lack of facial expression is having on children.

My beaming smile is once again on display for the world to enjoy...

Social conditioning theatre... you don't catch Covid from casually passing by someone in a grocery store. :nono:

Where are all the dead retail workers ???

(We were planning a trip to the Atlanta Zoo this weekend, until we checked the website and discovered
that you are required to wear a mask at ALL times... 98% of the zoo is a spacious outdoor setting and they
have already limited crowds with timed ticket reservations.)

Absolutely bananas... canceled our plans, going to TN Aquarium instead, no mask required !!!

My business was essential and I've spoken with loads of people who worked in various retail jobs all through the pandemic. The numbers of people who caught the virus at work is surprisingly low. EX: I have a friend who works at Kroger, and they had two people who got it out of the whole store, and they caught it elsewhere. Same with fast food...the dew who got it usually caught it from a family member. Work transmission just doesn't seem to be high.

Yep... NONE of our employees got it from work. Most had their teen or young twenty-ish children who brought it into the home. The teen to thirty group tend to get together at underground parties or functions and spread it... never getting very sick, but a carrier to multi generational families.

We are having problems at the hotel with young twenty to thirty year old groups renting rooms and partying all night. The restaurants with open bars are only open until 10 ... then they bring the party back to the hotel and disturb all the families who are sleeping - ready to get an early start at Seaworld, the Zoo, or other open attractions.

We had a full choir for the first time in a year this past Sunday. Two people have since tested positive.

Oooops
What day did they first have symptoms? If it was Sunday, Monday or Tuesday... you all are screwed... that would be the contagious time.

Generally now it is the window 48 hours prior to symptoms that you contact trace. However everyone would be wise to take a coivd test just to rule it out and get on with life.

Monday/Tuesday, but we weren't in the choir or around the two that tested positive. Wife and I have not yet gotten back into the choir after all the health problems we've had.

Let us know how many end up getting covid from them.

I hope it is zero... we shall see. In theory if they showed signs Monday or Tuesday, they were contagious on Sunday. I suspect there was a practice prior to Sunday, so there may have been more contact with the virus at that time too.

I was going to sing in the choir tomorrow, I may have to hold off now. Then again, I may do it anyway. I ain’t skerd.

Old man like you, this isn't something to fool around with. :)

But seriously folks, a guy who does some contracting work for me thought it was no big deal and he wound up so sick he dictated his will. He's 55 and in good health. His wife had it too, but she fought it at home. She said it was the sickest she has ever been.
