Loretta Lynn, coal miner’s daughter and country queen, dies

:tissue:

Growing up my parents listened to her but I just couldn't get on board. The older I got and the more I understood how far she came from her family roots I gained a lot of respect for her.

She had a booming music career for a bit, but then kinda vanished.
She stopped singing middle-of-the-road and crossover stuff and started recording albums of inspirational music and others where she recorded Hoagy Carmichael's music and others. The bulk of her fans were MOR and because they hadn't heard from her in a long time, those fans weren't there when she attempted to come back to MOR.

I am glad cptlo posted this I had intended to mention it but never did. Loretta's life story is inspiring and by most accounts she was a sweetheart. The era of the mid 60's-70's was a heyday for country music. Nashville was a good ole boys club controlled and dominated by men. Writing, publishing, air play, recording and touring was dominated by men. There were two exceptions to the writing and publishing end and that was Loretta and Dolly. Both of these ladies could write as well as perform. While I don't necessarily think Loretta's songs compare to Dylan for depth she was still a very prolific and successful writer. Coal Miners Daughter is a simple but very descriptive interpretation of her upbringing in Kentucky. She indeed was proud of her hardworking daddy and had no qualms about telling everybody where she came from. Wait until the angels hear her and Conway belt one out. Godspeed Loretta you were really something special.
