Looking for some hickory for smoking

The Lighthouse Food Pantry is going to have a Bar B Que next thurs and fri. I need to get a truck load of hickory to smoke with.

Where or who is the best and cheapest place to get some from?

I hope someone here knows. I put my thinking cap on but haven't come up with anything yet. :-X

I have no idea. I could use some as well. You don't keep the hickory in the entire time you smoke the meat do you?

When I smoke pork, I smoke it for the first 30 minutes only then let it cook the next 3.5 hours with indirect heat. It gives it a smoke flavor, but not overpowering.

There are some BBQ places in the area I can't stand to eat at because all you taste is the smoke. I especially can't stand a place that uses that liquid smoke.

I was doing some asking around and even looked on the internet for you to see if there was any place close. I couldn't come up with a thing. I wish we had a Sports Academy here because they sell big bags of hickory chunks. I'm talking good size chunks. They also sell bags of mesquite and apple. When I was living in Augusta, that's where I would buy mine. The closest Sports Academy is in Athens.

I just had an idea. Call Rodney's BBQ and ask them where they get theirs.

Good idea, I had not thought of that. I have known Donny that used to run Donny's in Powder Springs for years, he is now at side kicks in rockmart which is about 15 minutes from my house
