Learning To Crochet...

Okay... I announced that my resolution this year was learning how to knit.
I studied my book and some videos and frankly found it pretty intimidating.

So I decided that crochet seemed a bit easier and I found this great tutorial:

Any helpful tips, advice, or online learning resources appreciated in this thread.
Practicing my single crochet stitch now and making a scarf for da Baby Bunny...

:love

I've done both, knitting has a beautiful result but it takes much longer than crocheting. The only advice I can give is to make sure you hands are comfortable and watch how they hold their fingers. My sister used her ring finger to guide the yarn, I use my pinky. What ever you are most comfortable with will make it go much easier.

Just keep at it. Practice makes perfect on this. With a little time you will be a pro! Keep it simple til you're really comfortable controlling yarn tension and making different stitches.

I love crochet and if you ever have any questions, I'll be happy to help. Most of all...just have fun with it. You'll be putting together your own ideas/patterns soon!

Oh, and I'm learning a new form of crochet that looks like knitting, Tunisian crochet. I guess that's my new thing for this year.

Sweet Dee... I so appreciate the knitting book that you mailed to me.
If the year of crochet turns out well I would still love to learn knitting.

Crocheting is harder and takes longer for me. I can knit, but I haven't done it in so long that it would take me a minute to figure out how to get started.

You're most welcome. It was definitely not being used at my house...lol. I really tried to knit but it just seemed so slow and my brain kept telling my hands to make crochet stitches.

Enjoy your new hobby. Crocheting is relaxing and it's always nice to make new things to keep or give away!

Once you get the hang of it, it's much quicker, you can double and even triple crochet, making two or three rows at the same time. I've found those that love to knit, enjoy it much more than crocheting. I don't like to cross stitch either, it takes 4 ever. LOL

Speaking of fiber arts...I miss macramé. I used to enjoy that too, back in the 70s when it was all the rage. :))

We use macrame' to make survival bracelets and neckerchief slides out of parachute cord with the scouts. Those plant holders were awesome, I once even made a macrame' vest. :)

I think the only way I see macramé being used these days is for the survival bracelets & friendship bracelets. Too bad. Macramé is easy and fairly quick...and fun! I made a hanging table using macramé a long time ago. Wonder if there's a land fill somewhere with all the old macramé stuff in it? :))

I've never done macrame, but hubby makes the survival bracelets. The princess had him make one for every kid in her class and several in her after school group.

Hahaha... I remember some pretty cool macrame plant hangers from my childhood in the 70's.
(My husband also make those paracord bracelets... all the kids in our neighborhood have them.)

:))
