280 illegal immigrants were arrested and all worked for the same employer. After they were processed, some were released after promising to appear in court next month. I have a friend who works for ICE in Miami. He says rarely appear in court after being released. When ICE goes to their address after they fail to appear; they discover they are no longer there.
I will bet this employer did not use e-Verify. This is why I think the government should raise the fine to $10,000 (currently $350) for each illegal they are caught employing. In this case, the company could have been hit with a $2.8 million fine and the top leaders of the company charged criminally. That would serve as a huge deterrent to hiring illegals and help take away the incentive for them to come into our country illegally.
