I think in the beginning he had the passion for it. He was driven and wanted to succeed and I also think a lot of it had to do with building a relationship with his dad that he didn't really have. I think he lost most of his driving passion when his dad died. I think he does it now cause he knows he is one of Nascar's most popular drivers, he makes a ton of money just because of his name.
I think if he stepped away from Nascar, he might miss it a little, but he would be fine doing something else. I agree that he should have sat the races out with a concussion. That is something you don't mess around with for sure and I am sure after his dad dieing he doesn't play around with that.
I have read tons of comments on his FB page, on Nascar.com, and other places where people are bashing him for not driving, that in my opinion is stupid people who don't really care about the person in the car, it's all about the car and winning in their eyes. Nascar and their stupid changes over the last several years have taken the wind out of the sails so to speak. They need to let it go back to racing and I think the guys would get some of their excitement back! I see several of the long time drivers who look like they could care less if they were in that car or not.
I was a Dale Sr. fan and Kerry E. fan and Dale Jr fan and always will be! Nascar is a dieing sport I am afraid and if Nascar doesn't make some changes to put racing back into the sport, they will be sorry.
