Help Puppy Won\'t Eat

Polo Pax finished up his puppy dog food ( I have him on Blue Buffalo) so I switched him to the adult. Now he won't eat, this has been going on 2 days now. Should I get another bag of puppy and mix it into the adult? I don't know what to do. Any ideas tip would be great. TIA

Oh, no! I'm not a dog person, but perhaps mixing the two (esp. if you see he'll go back to eating the puppy version) is a good idea.

Maybe pour some broth over the food? We used to do that when pooch wasn't feeling good and didn't want to eat.

I got nothing. Our doggie is still new, and she loves to eat when I put her food down!

(Although, she is partial to the canned food. She had been known to "suck" the gravy off dry food and spit it out!) :laugh

Dog food changes should be done slowly. Get another bag of the puppy and slowly change the percentage of each over time. If you do go the route of adding anything into the food, be very careful. Not only can it be harmful (most broths have WAY too much sodium) but it can also set you up for a serious hassle anytime you don't have whatever it is to add to the food.

Yep, that's what you need to do. You really shouldn't have to add anything to the food.

You two are soooo smart. Just think of it like this, you've been eating beef steak all your life, nowsomeone wants you to only eat buffalo. It might take a while to get used to it.

I'm not following this, are you saying puppy food tastes much better than the adult food? Blue Buffalo is the name of the brand I give him. I mixed it together and he is eating some again.

It is a different blend so it will have a different taste and a different smell. It is a good quality food so :thumbsup for that. Just take the transition slowly from puppy to adult food.

What kind of dog is he and how old?

He is a 14month old Bichon

Cute dogs. Ok, he is ready to switch over. (Some breeds should stay on puppy food up to 2 years.) Just be sure to do it slowly. And just an FYI ... the small breeds do tend to be the pickier eaters. I've known some larger dogs that were difficult at times too but the small ones tend towards it more.

Good luck with him. :)

Yep, the reason you mix the food is to avoid upset tummy issues. Sometimes with Bichons they can be real picky
