Health Insurance Premiums

It's that dreaded time of year again...the annual health insurance renewal process for our small business. We received a renewal summary in the mail this week. Anyone want to guess whether the renewal premium amount would be higher, lower, or the same? Well that was a good guess but no it wasn't lower or the same, "surprisingly" it was higher (I know, right). How much higher? Glad you asked that too...it equates to a 27.05% increase for the same coverage we have currently.

How in the heck can a small business afford such a premium increase? I made a few calls to get quotes for other options and was actually surprised to find most would actually be higher. I even checked the "market place" (or whatever it's called) but it was higher as well as none of the employees qualified for any subsidy or assistance. We've always either just renewed or tweaked the plan options to keep the premiums at a reasonable level but this is just getting ridiculous.

Does anyone have any information on alternative group policies or expertise in this area. If so please share or send me a PM. I know we've recently hit on this topic but I can't find the threads(s) easily so I apologize for the duplicate subject.

Much appreciated.

I was hopeful that Trump and the GOP would overturn O-Care, but they have failed. Sadly, I don't expect much improvement until they do.

I was hopeful too but so far I don't see any relief in the near future. We'll manage one way or the other but I can't help but think of all the other small businesses which may not be as fortunate.

Many pundits were saying wait until people get their health insurance premiums, it will not be good for the GOP at election time.

They own it since they touched it without making it so there was more competition by letting people purchase, like car insurance, across state lines and several other things that they had 10 years to figure out... sadly the swamp does not want to take money from their friends.
TERM LIMITS!!!!!!!

I think you're spot on with your response. I'll be writing letters to many different levels of government and will include a copy with the next "Republican Survey" packet I receive.

IMO... Trump is not to blame concerning the lack of cleaning up the OBcare mess...
Rather Congress!

IMO we need to remember (in relation to Congress critters) who voted how...
When WE vote this November.

IMO this election this fall is a pivotal point: If Trump and camp gets just a little more support in both the house and senate...
They can get some stuff done.
If they do not... well the honeymoon is over and we will probably return to the downwards spiral we were on during the BHO years...
Well in reality: since Reagan left office.

See... there is the problem. If there are only incumbents to vote for... who after 30 jillion years in their position... should be voted out, but the guy who is new, is a progressive, not a conservative... who is left to vote for?

It comes down to strategy. Even the primary was like that. They guy I want, an independent, with no chance against a well known progressive, better vote for the tired swamp creature republican so there will still be a chance of a majority in Congress to perhaps get some things accomplished.

TERM LIMITS NEED TO BE ENACTED.

Hardcore NeverTrumpers were tantamount to an endorsement of Hillary, and they're currently rooting for Dems to take over Congress.

At some point the primary is over, and the election absolutely does become a binary choice, with gigantic stakes given the size of government, power of SCOTUS, etc. I wish the stakes were lower and elections were less important, but they're not.

When Trump secured the nomination, Republicans - especially politicians, writers, pundits - either decided the stakes were high enough to support him despite his flaws as the underdog in a tough and important election, or they decided opposing him was worth President Hillary.

When it really mattered, when the chips were down and the Republican nominee needed all the help he could get to win the longest long-shot victory in recent memory, there are people who went AWOL or actively supported the Democrat.

The fact is that the stakes are so high now, we're so close to crossing so many lines, the Democrats are so aggressive about using power, that no presidential or congressional term can be sacrificed even for sincere long-term plans to improve the GOP.
