Have you ever watched a movie with low expectations....

...and been pleasantly surprised at how good it was?

We just watched "John Carter" for the second time. Didn't really expect it to be that good, just bought it because it was in 3-D. Apparently, it wasn't a financial success.

But what a great movie!! We were just mesmerized both times we watched it! It's different, but really cool.

Well, I had to look it up because I didn't know what it was. Reviews described it as a "Disney bomb". Glad you liked it.

I think it was a marketing failure. The movie itself is quite enjoyable.

I've heard the same. I heard it was very good, but who ever heard of it except movie buffs? (And I don't care for anything 3D. Meh.)

Well, it's in 2-D also.

OK, this is a stupe question, but are 3-D movies watchable in 2-D? As in, if it only came out in 3-D and you watched it without your glasses or on a non-3-D machine...what would happen? Besides a tear in the universe, I mean? :D

It's available in 2-D format. The 3-D versions always come with a 2-D version too, sometimes on the same disc and others on a separate disc. So I can watch them in either 2 or 3 D.

When watching a 3-D movie without the glasses, you get a double image, so it looks very blurry.

Ed Zachary. I sure don't want to have to think about stuff like that when I could be thinking about fashion, or music, or gardening, or crochet, or....... ;)

I have seen a handful of movies that I only watched cuz someone else wanted to, and been pleasantly surprised. :)

I find the movies that I did not expect to be very well made, are the ones I like the most?

The biggest surprise for me was National Treasure - it got horrible reviews ... I don't even know why I went to see it... maybe the kids wanted to go ...I loved it! I was so surprised!

We seldom go out to a movie - but they show them so quickly on TV, and my kids will buy or rent them. I have found often the ones that movie critics dislike, I enjoy immensely.

I chock it up to the fact I am just in the mood to have my mind escape reality for a bit… not expecting a lot, so it is easy to be entertained…and isn’t that what it’s all about? :thumbsup

I really liked that movie too! It's one of those I watched because a friend wanted to & loved it.
