Has anyone ever made door snakes?

I don't know if hats what thy are really called, but I've called them that since I was little (Grandma used say, "don't play with that snake!" lol) Anyway, my grandma made hers, and she has passed. I don't know how she did it. I could google, but thought I'd ask y'all.

What do you fill them with, and what's the best material to use?

I use pillow stuffing, the kind you buy in bags. You just need a really long stick to pack it in there, it needs to be tight. I use a wooden yardstick or a wooden dowel.

I just bought those that you slide under the door. Works great. :)) (Those could be easily made. They have 2 styrofoam type material in them.)

Thanks ladies! I had it my head I needed rice??? Idk why.

The doors I need them for have carpet on one side and tile on the other... Do you think a two sided one would work?

I was actually going to say that I thought it needed to be rice or beans, mainly for the weight. :dunno

It's a cotton fabric. It should slide okay. It's the "as seen on tv" one that I bought.

I've seen them with rice or beans. I love them...AWESOME for older houses.

I would put rice/beans as well as batting/stuffing.

I like that idea. I also like the idea of leaving them slightly loosey-goosey...that is to say, not stuffed to the gills. Gives the snake more ability to mold into drafty places. JMHO. Brings back memories...I grew up in an old farmhouse...I know from drafts. :D

Our closet has a storage area on either side. It's over the garage and not very well insulated (the storage areas). There is a draft that comes
From the closet, through the bathroom, and into our bedroom. It's chilly at night. I may try the rice and stuffing.

Surely I have enough cotton fabric here so I'll not have to buy some... I don't hoard it or anything ;D
