I very much remember that day. I also remember what Hank did for the entire city, the south, and the country in the years before and after. I really think that period was the turning point for Atlanta.
 
Hammering Hank was a true role model for everyone. By all accounts he was who you wished he was off the field. To a person anyone involved with him says he was a very good man. I remember the chase even though I was 11-12 y.o. at the time and I saw him play live 4-5 times including couple of homers. What a lot of people miss is that he was a premiere athlete not just a long ball hitter. He could play outfield with anyone in his prime. I think he still holds the RBI record as well as some others. To me he is the all time HR leader not the juiced up Butthole Barry Bonds. Hank did it with hard work, Ruth did it with Bourbon and Cigars, Bonds did it with illegal chemicals. RIP Hammer you were a part of my childhood memories.
