Handicapped Parking

I've seen quite a few that could benefit from the walk :whistle

Don't kid yourself that it's not abused. While working security at a movie theater a few years ago, I saw a dude get out of a car with a handicap plate and JOG to the window to buy tickets. As he was about mid-jog, I had walked close enough to check out the tag. He said with a sarcastic tone; "It has a handicapped plate". There was nothing I could do but want to slap him with my ASP :Stick

He was obviously driving a relatives car or it was meant for another driver. They sould issue identification to the ACTUAL person who is handicapped and they should have to provide it to law enforcement at their request. Of course it's being abused. The fine for fraud should be TWICE what they charge for people who park there without a sticker or plate.

I'm sure it would be an easy task  :laugh

The permanent tags that go on the cars are supposed to be harder to get but in theory are issued in the name of the individual with the handicap, unless a minor. The renewable hang tags (blue and red) have the name of the person they are issued for on them. As for the jackhole mentioned above ... he likely could have easily been tripped into admitting that the tag was not issued for his use then he could have been ticketed.

DH has the DAV plates on his truck. I have the placard in my truck. Neither one of us uses the spots unless DH is having a bad day. DH is always with me if I park in handicapped spaces. Of course DH can park in the space period. I hate driving that truck.

I know a woman who has a handicapped son. She has the hanging tag for him; however, when she goes shopping and leaves him at home, she will park in a handicapped parking space. I agree that when a person has been issued a handicapped license place for themselves, that a sticker be placed on their driver's license that indicates the tag is for them or another type sticker indicating it's for a family member. This would make it easier for LEOs to ticket those who abuse it.

That hang tag has his name on it and she can be ticketed for parking there when he is not with her.

True, but how often do you see a police officer sitting in a parking lot to verify those things?

Especially where donuts aren't sold. :laugh

Handicap parking enforcement isn't a high priority issue at all but the means are there to enforce.

Sad but true ... there are those in law enforcement in this county who feel they are above federal ADA law and frequently tell unauthorized people to use those spots at their will because they will not be ticketed. I wonder how happy the taxpayers will be when they have to pay for that lawsuit settlement someday?
