No doubt prehistoric creatures that have changed little in thousands of years. I have seen large snapping turtles from time to time maybe 50+ lbs. but not as big as that one. I have caught alligator gar on the Coosa River and St.Marks river but maybe 20+ lbs maximum. The both look terrifying but are pretty much harmless to humans if you keep appendages away from there mouths. I have hit gar with the boat going upriver they sit near the top of the water and you don't always see them until you hear a thud on the hull.

There are loads of Gar in Alatoona. When I was an avid fisherman, we would often see them up in the coves in early morning. They tend to be quite nosy; they would come up to the boat to see what we were doing, then swirl and swim off.
