Libertarian VP candidate shows ignorance on guns, claims removing firing pin makes weapon fully automatic

http://conservativefiringline.com/l...ving-firing-pin-makes-weapon-fully-automatic/

Unbelievable! and a little funny
During an interview at Revolt TV, former Massachusetts Governor William Weld, the current Libertarian Party vice-presidential candidate, displayed an egregious ignorance on guns, claiming, for example, that removing the firing pin from a semi-automatic weapons makes it fully automatic, the Daily Caller reported on Tuesday.

“The five-shot rifle, that’s a standard military rifle,” he told Revolt’s Chief Political Correspondent Amrit Singh. “The problem is if you attach a clip to it so it can fire more shells and if you remove the pin so that it becomes an automatic weapon. And those are independent criminal offenses. That’s when they become essentially a weapon of mass destruction.”

Of course, anyone who knows anything about guns can tell you that removing the firing pin would render the weapon inoperable — it’s not going to fire anything at all.

When asked about dealing with the flow of guns, Weld responded: “You shouldn’t have anybody who’s on a terrorist watch list be able to buy any gun at all.”

So much for due process.

The title of this thread is wrong. Not everyone is into guns so what may seem simple to you may not be to everyone like Weld.

So is your contention that Donald trump is a gun expert? Do you forget that he backed his buddy when it came to getting "automatic assault weapons" off the streets? Perhaps his views on gun restrictions depend upon the audience to whom he is speaking or the politician whom he is trying to buy off.

But first lets address your claim. Weld never said "firing pin". What he is referring to is the fact (yes it is a bonified fact) that older Vietnam era AR-15's could indeed be converted to an unreliable form of fully auto by modifying three components in the sear, one being a pin. I wouldn't recommend it unless exploding lowers and sticking triggers is your thing, but this turned into the widespread thought that such a conversion was both easy and common. It is neither, and newer models are designed to specifically defeat this hack. But as cptlo306 pointed out, not everyone is a weapons expert able to discern AR's by model year nor the intricacies of gunsmithing.

Now on to what gun control would look like under a Gary Johnson Presidency. He has said he would veto every piece of gun control legislation that crossed his desk and rescind any executive actions related to gun control. Do you have an argument with that?

No, my problem with Johnson is not his stance on guns. In fact, it's not even a mild concern since he has ZERO chance of being elected. And I did hear the interview where he said "pin". Not "firing pin", but he did say pin. I suppose he is referring to those "older Vietnam era AR-15's" that you refer to...and their obvious abundance to the public in 2016...::sigh::

Although I believe Johnson's candidacy hurts Clinton more in this election than it does Trump, my opinion of Johnson is based on the fact that his run is not because of his newly identified libertarian values, but a selfish grasp at being relevant. He was always a republican until he couldn't make it as a republican nominee.

A pat on the back of Johnson if he supports the 2nd amendment, but Trump has also said the same thing. Although Johnson runs into the same problem as myself. I also fully support the 2nd amendment and like Johnson, have ZERO chance of becoming president.

We have only 2 choices in the next few weeks. Well, 3 choices if you include sitting on the couch instead of being part of the reason Clinton is not elected. A lot of people have hurt feelings, but haven't we all at times? I've taken a lot of guff because of not being a closet Trump supporter, but I'm not the type to slink around and keep my support close to the vest based on public opinion.

Rush Limbaugh often says that he is the Mayor or Realville. Me, I'm just a resident, but it's abundantly clear to me that Clinton must ABSOLUTELY NOT be elected president. She will literally ship hundreds of thousands of foreigners into our nation and place them on the government tit in order to bolster the number of democrat voters. Even a blind man can see that. But speaking for myself, I'm not voting for the lesser of two evils.

From the beginning I appreciated Trump's directness and blunt talk. I don't care if he is politically incorrect. In fact, I admire it and it is extremely refreshing to me. I completely support his stance on immigration and building a wall. I find his naming of Supreme Court nominees reassuring. I absolutely agree, 100% with his stance on making the military strong again and the "Peace through Strength" approach. I applaud Trump for wanting to make America respected and once again revered by other nations. I totally agree with his plan to lower the corporate tax rate and simplify the tax code to 3 brackets instead of 7. I support his approach on veteran's issues and reforming the VA. I agree 100% with his stance regarding the ludicrous deal with Iran and his support of Israel. I agree with turning the supervision of education back to the states and, although I DO NOT agree with the transgender bathroom craziness and Gay marriage and marijuana legalization, it could be worse than leaving those issues up to the states as well.

I'm not going to agree 100% with everything Trump says or does, but to me the choice is crystal clear. There are too many issues that I DO agree with not to support Trump. Actually there are MORE issues that I agree with him on than the last two bumbling republican candidates that have run.

Anyone can say that he will not do the things he is saying. Well, the same can be said for Johnson. But this I know...I don't want Clinton to do anything she is saying she'll do. And what's worse is that she will do FAR worse than she is promising.
