FDA could ban menthol cigarettes this week

This is an infringement on people's right to choose. What's even more interesting is how they made it a health issue specifically for black people. They must think all or the vast majority of blacks who smoke, smoke menthols. Isn't that stereotyping, or better yet profiling?

I have never smoked. I would not care if they banned all cigarettes but saying blacks smoke menthol is no different than saying blacks eat watermelon. It is absolutely stereotyping. Maybe the stats show blacks are more likely to smoke menthol. I guess it is OK if the figures justify the targeted group you are trying to help. If you apply stats to the number of 25 yo or younger that are incarcerated and use this as a target for crime prevention you are a racist.

This is another example that should have black people pissed off. Banning menthol cigarettes BECAUSE black people get lung cancer is saying, "Hey since you're too stupid to quit smoking, we're going to ban menthol cigarettes; the cigarettes black people choose to smoke."

Do these people really think that the vast majority who smoke menthol cigarettes will quit smoking once a menthol ban is in place? No, they will just start smoking non-menthol cigarettes.

From the article, they know that, but believe that even if 80% switch over, then that' 20% that quit and will be more healthy and if the lack of them keeps 40% from starting smoking, then that's another bunch of savings in health care. (if they don't start eating instead and just become obese)

I wonder if you can make a cigarette holder out of a Vick's Inhaler, or something like it??
