I don't know that it's because they are fake news as much as because it's an overgrown industry, and competition is weeding out the worst.

Either way, it's probably a good thing, but we have a long way to go. Journalism is all but dead in our country, and much of the media has become an enemy of the state.

I still say all this started with the advent of the 24 hour news industry. News is no longer a service, but a business that must stand on it's own with ratings and revenues. This has caused ethics to go out the window in favor of profits.

I think you are 100 % correct. News is a money making industry... more viewers - higher ratings means more TV advertisers and money.

News before CNN was if it bleeds it leads. They were already teasing the audience to make sure they came back to their station for the news after they watched regular programing of the sitcoms or drama series TV shows.

Remember the, "School bus full of children drives off cliff, film at 11:00." ? You heard about it from the end of the news at Noon until news started at 11PM.

I agree news is a money making industry and that is why the MSM has been writing fake news stories in the name of competing for the advertising dollar. They now follow the same business strategy as rags like the National Enquirer by making stuff up to sensationalize "news."

LOL, you know, I hadn't really thought about how today's "News" resembles those old News mags, but you are correct! Anything to get people to tune in.
