"Catching up with The World"

I became a little distracted during a training class last week. Our report writing software was updated and changed considerably. The female instructor was from Tennessee where their base of operation is. Everything was going along just fine....for a training class. You know, dull, dry and boring. That is, until she got to the domestic violence section. There was a drop-down menu that has to be selected from in the event you are writing a report about a domestic arrest or report.

There were many choices, such as spouse vs spouse, parent vs child, etc. The instructor said that we needn't try to find the selection of "same-sex couple" in the menu. She opined that it exists in their programming, but Georgia wanted no part of it being in any of their Uniform Reporting System. She continued by saying, "Georgia just hasn't caught up to the World yet."

I kept silent because I'm not on command staff with this agency. I'm just a line officer and know when to keep my mouth shut. But I wanted to say that if a same sex couple is married, doesn't the "spouse vs spouse" selection cover it?

In any case, it disheartens me that there are too many people who think it is so important to "keep up with the World". That implies that everything the World does is right and proper. This woman is so misguided in her view. One of the worst things we can do as Christians is to emulate the World. The so-called "morals" the World promotes aligns with God's Word very infrequently.

1 John 2
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
