Biden's train agenda

Trains in Japan travel at 199 mph. Biden wants to give railroads $10B a year to develop new rail lines. He gives Atlanta to Charlotte; and LA to Vegas as examples. Apparently he would like to see these trains travel at 220 mph.

I've always wanted to do a train ride across the country. Seems like it would be cool. Not at 220mph though.

When I lived in Michigan, we took Amtrak from Durand, MI to Toronto. It wasn't bad, but the food and drinks on the train were expensive. When my brother was in the Air Force, he took a train from California to Durand, MI. He hated it because it took three days and he had to sit up the entire time. He said getting a sleeping berth was expensive as hell. Bottom line is he said he would never do it again. He bought a new car while he was home on leave and drove it back to CA. He said driving was much more enjoyable than a three day train ride.

Trains can take freight cross country just fine... we have the tracks to do that.

Stupid Girl, Bernie and all the other Marxists are not going to make our lives better cramming us on trains.

Add to that, the "pandemic" has shown how your own personal car provides protection from other people's germs. Not to mention crazy people take public transportation... since we are eliminating police, who were the method of keeping a civil society, I think most of us would rather pass on a train being our forced mode of transportation.

Look at the wonderful CA train to nowhere... We all knew the train was a stupid use of tax money no matter how you looked at it, but the greenies seem to think taking us back to the stone age or 1800 's when trains were the way to tame the west was the best way to control America and seem woke.

We don't need passenger trains... The routes people would now want to travel on a train, are developed.

California's "Train to nowhere" can't get land agreements to go forward, they only have Bakersfield to Merced. Have you ever been to Bakersfield or Merced? The original estimates of the Los Angeles-to-San Francisco high-speed line was $33 billion back in 2008. Today the cost stands at $100 billion, and there appears to be no end in sight.

Bakersfield to Merced Train - Amtrak Tickets $24

The distance between Bakersfield and Merced is approximately 156 miles, or 251 kilometers. The average train journey between these two cities takes 3 hours and 1 minute

Trains had their place "During the 1850s and 1860s, when steamboats and stagecoaches dominated long-distance travel across the West, their schedules varied according to the season. Not only did cold weather and ice halt river travel for months at a time, but ice and drifting snow in high mountain passes greatly slowed the pace of overland stagecoaches and their vital cargoes of mail, or stopped them literally in their tracks. In the new railroad era, steam locomotives and their passenger and freight trains would roll with impunity across frozen waterways and through the icy mountain passes of the West to reach their destinations regardless of the weather, and generally they would do so according to the printed schedule."

Riding the train isn't all picturesque either. For the most part the railroads go through the sorriest parts of cities which will remind you of junkyards and Beirut. It isn't until you get into the country or mountains that you see something nice so enjoy it while you can because trains go from city to city, and the rails are always on the bad side of town.

Also be advised that your train may not always arrive at noon, more than likely at 2 or 3 a.m. There you are in the bad side of town with your bags in hand and no taxi service at that time of the morning, and you can't check into your hotel anyway.

Yessiree, train trips are a real adventure that everyone should do once in their life, and from then on you will be a frequent flier!!

What I thought about doing was an auto/train where you park your car on one car and ride on a coach from one city to the next, then get back in your car and go where you want. Saves the wear and tear on your car, and you're reasonably refreshed when you get there,,, something to think about.

Because it's working so well in California.
Exactly... Bend over Amerika everyone knows it is a dog... but the claw back... just like the damn Paulding Airport, is the club that is used to beat politician to find more money to keep it going... even though the sane thing to do is to admit it is a boondoggle and stop. Article from 2019... and yet Newsom has continued to bleed money on this stupid project... about to come out of your pocket...

2019

And Biden/AKA Nasty Nancy has a way to keep this horrible concept alive in spite of the waste of funds... the money should NOT be spent on this horrible train idea.

2021

The $2.3 trillion infrastructure package President Joe Biden rolled out last week has backers of the California bullet train dreaming of what could be.

The torrent of federal funding could provide the beleaguered project with billions of dollars needed to bring high-speed rail to the Bay Area or even Los Angeles. Or its share could be much, much less.

One thing is for sure: Without a whole lot more federal money, it could end up being a costly, controversial train with only five stops between Merced and Bakersfield.

California will get the money

California will get the money
I am afraid so... even with the money, the project will never be more than Bakersfield to Merced because they can't get the land to build the rest... and even then, the cost makes no sense with as few people who will ever ride on it...

From the beginning it was a financial sinkhole... it will never make financial sense. Everyone knows it...but the woke keep pushing for no-one to have a car... it is a sickness.

Sigh. I can’t understand how liberals can be so stupid to not understand we are not Europe or Japan. The distances here are too great. Freight trains work here because of the distance involved. High speed trains work there because the distances Are so much shorter. Building and Maintaining that kind of high performance roadbed is expensive. Trying to do that from Chicago to LA is nuts. I’ve ridden the 80 MPH (in places) Amtrack from Baltimore to NYC. 3 hours. Only In the NE are the cities close together as the are in Europe to make that work.

You watch the Democrats go to change EPA emission standards to something that essentially makes automobiles too expensive to buy because of production costs. Also watch for a huge increase in the national gas tax that will increase gas prices to match the cost of gas in Europe. They will do everything they can to FORCE people to use mass transportation. They don't even realize how that won't work as many people commute an hour or two to work every day. A lot of people in Gainesville work in Atlanta and the metro area. They'll be screwed with higher costs in gas and there's no mass transportation for them to get to Atlanta or anywhere close.

That's what I've been thinking. Most railroads in this country are limited to 40-45 mph due to track and bed limitations. What they want to build will have to be 5 times better than what we are used to. Then they can have absolutely no grade crossings on any route which will mean bridges that must be maintained as well.
The French thought they had it all figured out until a wheel exploded at 160 and killed quite a few people. There is so much more for design engineers to consider when going from 80 to 200 mph,,, I wouldn't be the first to try it out, or even the 10,000th!
