Attention Netflix !!!

I would think the shortness of breath at that altitude would tell them it was a fruitless venture. Sounds to me like a con man has figured out how to scam people for a half million and disappear before the snow gets too deep, or as more and more people see their mistake and walk away from it,,, either way the con man gets the money. It should be fun to watch what happens.

20 years ago there was a KPBS show of, I think, 5 families who were to make it on their own in Wyoming. Of course the show's basis was that they were to live like pioneers of the 1800's. They got little to nothing from the outside modern world.

They all lost a tremendous amount of weight due to lack of protein and available food, they could not put away enough wood or food to sustain them through the winter. They were in an area where they had trees to use for the small homes they built, and flat land to have chickens and farm animals, but once the winter set in, it was brutal and animals did not do so well, since they only had enough food for the people. The show ended reporting that none of the families would have made it through winter, and as a pioneer, would have perished. All their time was in pursuit of animals to hunt, chores to keep the place going... no washing machines, vacuum cleaners, modern stoves... keeping a fire going to cook hot food is a full time job... no microwaves. Camping is fun until it isn't. In the summer, there was a freak cold spell where they got snow and cold for long enough it killed much of their garden... Mexico or some country where the growing season is year round would be a better place to colonize.

If this group has nothing to barter with in the outside world, they will soon starve or die from exposure. Can't believe many people will continue to give money past the initial start of this experiment.

Maybe they can film their progress and get money from that to keep living. Good luck to them, they will need it.

I think the real show was about seeing how many people would give to a losing cause, then feel bad for those who help take their money.

I guess it was 3 families, not 5... Montana not Wyoming.:cheesy: Bad memory I guess!

PBS did several different series, putting families in different era situations, like Europe in the victorian era. It gave you information about history, but was interesting to see what it would be like to truly live during the time periods they asked the families to live in.

Maybe they should watch this first... of course when I tried it said it was not available.

Frontier House, a six-part, hands-on history series, took three modern-day families back in time to live like 1880s homesteading pioneers in Montana. The families headed west in May 2001 and resided there until October, with just the tools of the period at their disposal. Throughout their historic adventure, the families' trials, triumphs, simple pleasures, and daily rigors were revealed.
