AT&T...again!

Some of you might recall my extended DSL outage at work last fall. Well, at it again. Was in and out much of last week, down most of the weekend, down today.

Comcast first told me they finally had service there, now they tell me 3 more months.

If you guys get a report of a dude in a thong getting arrested for hitting an AT&T person today, you'll know why. :rant

Conversation with AT&T repairman who comes out. To preface; we have two separate DSL lines.

AT&T-What kind of problem are you having?

Me-Internet keeps going out

AT&T-Which one?

Me-Both. They both go in/out at exactly the same time

AT&T-That means the problem isn't here, it's in our system down at the hub

Me-Duh! That's what I've been trying to tell those idiot flow chart readers in your customer no-service office

AT&T-Well, nothing i can do, but I'll turn in a service request to Digital

Me-I don't care if you have to run a dedicated line to Al Gore's butthole, I need reliable internet

AT&T-*crickets*

Check CBeyond. They use T1 lines. We have them at work. The switch was quick and easy. Just a thought. I love having options.

I've spoke with them before. Much more expensive and though more bandwidth, much less speed.

They came in quite a bit cheaper than ATT for us.

Does Clear come out that far??

I tried being nice. That got me "we don't see a problem, must be your stuff". Now I'm standing on people's desks demanding action.

T1 is only 1.5 MBPS both ways, which is slower then average DSL line.....when it works.

Yep. The upside it that you can do that simultaneously on a bunch of computers, but not much speed. I have 6 meg now, when it works. And 30+ meg at home.

I use to be a reseller and installer for CBeyond when I had my computer shop. I did the networking side, not the phone side. Which was really an easy setup once they had all their stuff setup. It was good for small offices with about 10 or less computers, or it was back in the day. But with the graphics in today's websites, not sure if it's still a good deal...or that they still use T1. For 2 or 3 computers and phone lines, it's not really worth the expense.

Update...

We're still fighting this. Service keeps going down, I've spent hours on the phone with these people. Had a tech come out and he determined what I already knew, that the problem was in their lines. So he was supposed to report to another department and he dropped the ball. So I spend more time on the phone with these people, and finally chew enough butt that they escalate it to the Network Reliability division. They assure me that they are on it and will solve the problem.

Service went down again last night and they are telling me it won't be repaired until Saturday morning.
