AOC supports efforts for Congressional pay raise

What's really hilarious about this is she's saying it's not a raise; it's a cost of living increase. This pay raise issue is a perfect example of they hypocrisy of the left. They fight for income equality, but push to give themselves a raise that widens the gap between what they make and the poor they claim to support. I'd like to see most members of Congress fired for not doing their jobs.

Rules for serving in congress:
*Pay is $1/year
*NO benefits
*One term, no exceptions
*After your term, you may NOT live, visit, nor be employed by anyone that works in the DC area... for a period not less than 10 years!

Rules for elections:
Each candidate answers a sheet of questions...
The sheet is mailed to all registered voters...
Voters vote.
No campaigning!

With those rules, the only people that could afford to run are rich people and none of them would want to given the other restrictions.

I always thought it might work to have a lottery of people aged 30 to 40, and work it like the draft. If your SSN comes up, you spend 2 or 6 years in congress at minimum wage with room and board and health care provided. If you are worth 10% more when you leave, than when you went in,,, you go directly to prison. The president must be selected from the active list of Governors!!!

With these rules...
The only folks that WOULD run, are folks that are there to serve the country,
Rather than get rich OFF the citizens.

Besides...
A person with a proven track record of successful management of large organizations...
Logically would do better running the govt...
Than a community organizer or a spoiled bar tender... :D

The argument I’ve always heard is that you have to pay enough to make it less temping to sell your vote However I don’t think it’s working.

IMO the founders expected folks who already had businesses running to finance their lives...
Would take off a year or so and SERVE the country by bringing their management skills to govt.

The idea was NEVER for a polecat to make $$$ by being in office.

That level of corruption, came along later.

Even if members of Congress served with no pay; that wouldn't prevent them from getting even richer while in Congress. You would still have corruption where members sell their votes. Sorry JawJa, but you're plan does not prevent what you say it would. Members of Congress started getting paid in 1855 with an annual salary of $3,000 ($75,000 in today's dollars).

Our very first Congress received a per diem of $6 ($167 today), which was a considerable amount of money back then.

Gotta do the whole package... including:
*Pay is $1/year
*NO benefits
*One term, no exceptions
*After your term, you may NOT live, visit, nor be employed by anyone that works in the DC area... for a period not less than 10 years!

That wouldn’t work. Too many would get in with the attitude to sell their votes to the highest bidder while they have their one chance. They’d have nothing to lose. At least now they can’t do anything TOO illegal if they want to be re-elected. At least if they are not Liberals. Also it would put a lot of the power into the paid staff that got passed down. They would be the continuity between office holders.

Staff must be new also... will add that to the list...

Point is... we need to figure out a way to STOP the idea of career polecats!

How do you propose to attain that goal???
