...and then you run across a little gem like this one...

I use the old 80/20 rule when it comes to books - or rather, the 80/10/10 rule. I figure 80% of them are pretty good. 10% are really awful, and 10% are super good. My numbers might be off, but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

So, naturally, when I happen across a book in the top 10%, I am overjoyed. Such was the occasion the other day when I found this book, "Snatched" by Pamela Burford. It's about a woman who is kidnapped, but it's not the kind of book you're thinking it is. It's a marvelously convoluted plot that is tied up perfectly by the end of the book. But what makes the book a knockout is the incredibly quirky characters. The two main characters are the only two normal people in the book. They are nice, and I really liked them, but the ancillary characters just flat out steal the book. Think Snake and Eddie from Dave Barry's "Big Trouble" or Grandma Mazur and Lula from the J. Evanovich books.

It was free on Kindle for a time, but even if it's not, well worth the read. One of those books you don't want to rush through...pick a time to read when you can just flat out enjoy it.
