A frim stance....or not?

I found this interesting with all the "cult" topics. Most of us are in close agreement when it comes to politics...right? Are things of this world more important than eternity?

Let me begin by saying I'm nowhere even near perfect and I never even thought such a thing. Without Christ, I'm a big ZERO with the ring knocked off. I'd like to compare our religious topics with the political ones. Of course, a non-believer or non-spiritual person wouldn't be interested in this topic.

My view is eternity IS far more important than what happens in this temporary, human form. Why do we take such a strong stance in our political positions, yet subscribe to the belief that all religious beliefs are just fine and dandy? I'm not suggesting that we confront and be hateful to people of other beliefs...not at all. But people are SO hesitant to take a stand for their eternal beliefs. I don't think there's any reason to be ashamed. Especially when someone begins a topic, speciffically asking why other people believe the way they do. If you don't want to hear it, why ask to begin with? So everyone can agree with you? I find that strange...

Why don't we act in a similar fashion with our politics? I know how some react when a politician is not 100% conservative or 100% liberal or has s liberal social view or too conservative of a view. Why not just accept and vote for anyone under any circumstance because we don't want to offend them? But from what I see on forums and Face Book, that doesn't seem to bother us much...

There will always be people that give too much leeway on what they believe, because of the fear of speaking up and being labeled inflexible or worse. As far as my own spiritual beliefs go, I will speak the truth I know. I am not offended by questions, nor am I worried when someone doesn't agree with me. God certainly doesn't need my defense and He is much better at revealing Himself than any man could.

I will also say this...I am human and I do get a little sideways from time to time, so don't follow me! ;D

I am pretty positive the OP wanted to hear it, but I believe she wanted to hear your opinion. Not so much the copy, paste because those things she can find online anywhere. I think she wanted your opinion and what you based that opinion on. Was it experience or just something you read or were told?

That of course is just my opinion of what she was asking. :))

Then all a person has to do is ask for no cut & paste. I didn't know all the specific beliefs of the LDS, so I went to find them. Thought it might be helpful....but what do I know?

I don't believe I did any "cut & paste". I did have to look up some references from the Book of Mormon, though.

I didn't do the "cult" post to offend anyone and I'm not looking for anyone to agree with me, but thanks for throwing that little dig in. I honestly just wanted to know why people believe what they believe about Mormons. I know what google, wiki and mormon.org says about it, I've looked it up in the past. But I was looking for more than that - I was looking for what makes you believe it personally. Do you believe it based on the internet, a personal experience, or is it simply based on what someone else has told you. Maybe I should have said not to cut and paste, next time I will. If I hurt your feelings or insulted you, I apologize - that was not my intent.

But, you pointed out a good question - you don't know the specifics of LDS. So, did you think of it as a cult (before you googled) and if you did, why?

I'm firmly grounded in my faith, but I don't have all of the answers and I really appreciate it when I get to learn something new about another person's faith.

I look at this way. There's only one way to Heaven and that's through Christ. John 3:16 spells it out nicely. As Christians, we should live our lives as Christ like as possible to be good examples to others. We should not hide the fact we are Christians either. We all should be a disciple of Christ through our actions and deeds. However, we are all sinners even as Christians. The greatest thing is, Christ put Himself on that cross to wash away our sins. None of us are going to be the perfect Christian and none of us should judge the other either because of that. Yes, if a Christian is going down the wrong path, we are obligated to take another with us to let them know, but the final decision is theirs. We must pray for those who believe and those who don't.

It wasn't a dig and it would be helpful if you checked back to where you may have first seen the term first used in my post. It was in the quoted text that I posted. Not from me.

Where I get the information I believe in is not from what another person told me or the internet. It is from the Bible. I have heard a lot of people iver the years say a lot of different things, but I don't always take their word for it.
