Why is this being held up

Basically, this will allow the Veteran's kid to stay on CHAMPVA until they are 26. As of right now, for example I have to prove that our son is still in school when he turns 18 in order for him to stay on CHAMPVA.
Now the civilian kids don't have to be in school, heck they don't even have to have a job and they get to stay on their parents insurance. So why is this bill being held up?
Thoughts?

S.170 - CHAMPVA Children's Care Protection Act of 2015

Interesting, that's the first I've heard of it. For an administration who pushed "equality for all" something seems to be amiss. Probably worth following up and finding the right buttons to push to get answers.

Yeah I'm going to be makeing a call, and sending an email to my Senator about this.

You would have thought this was taken care of under ObamaCare, but I guess government provided insurance was exempt. Personally, I think ObamaCare should be repealed. If someone wants to keep their child on their plan until the child turns 26, they should pay for that.

Don't you love how the government makes themselves exempt from the laws they pass? Bet that was one of the sub clauses that was found when they read it after they passed it.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

Tricare Young Adult isn't free.

The kids/young adults cannot stay on the parents insurance at all after they turn 18. Which for me that will mean we will have to buy out son his own policy, even though he will still be in high school.

I do not know of any insurance that gives it free to 26. You still have to pay.
Then you just don't know how Tricare works. It is free til 21 or 23 if they are still in college.

No I don't. You said prior to that Tricare young adult is not free, and I was agreeing that I did not know of any that give it free. So you are saying that Tricare is free insurance for military families that includes kids up until 21 or 23 if in college?
What insurance is GG speaking of that does not pay for an 18 year old in school?

Our twins are still on their mother's insurance policy. They are 19, and neither live at home, or attend college. Apparently, under AHA they can stay on her plan until they are 26.

I'm getting the impression that her husband didn't retire and is disabled. She isn't getting Tricare, the GOVT is giving them insurance because of his disability status.
Looks like he is covered till age 23 if he stays in school.
Beneficiaries age 18 to 23
When a CHAMPVA-eligible beneficiary turns 18, CHAMPVA requires that the beneficiary submit proof to CHAMPVA of full-time enrollment in an eductational instituton for benefits to continue. Information on submitting proof of enrollment can be found on our Fact Sheet 01-15: School Enrollment Certification Requirements for CHAMPVA Benefits.

Gotcha. What you just posted is along the lines of what we had to do with Aetna when our son turned 18. He was an October baby so he still had half a year of high school.

Yes, my husband is feeling the full effects of our governments chemical experiments. Thank you Dow chemical for agent orange.
Now I had to do some checking about something related. CHAMPVA is a catastrophic insurance not a full fledged health insurance. It doesn't cover (for kids over 6 years old) normal health physicals.
What the bill does is allow these kids to stay on the CHAMPVA till they are 26 w/o the school/marriage/work requirement just like everybody else insurance. Yes, my son has an late August birthday so I will have to prove that he is still in school when he turns 18.

When we had United Health care our daughter was on it till she was 19. Guess it differs for some health carriers
