CANTON, Ga. - Canton Police Chief Jeff Lance has resigned from his position after an outside investigation found that police in Canton violated their own policies while investigating the disappearance of a 7-year-old girl whose body was found days later in a trash compactor at her apartment complex.

No surprise to me...something in one of the articles after the guy was captured made me think there was a big uproar over Canton's handling it and the Sheriff had to take charge.

I haven't followed it closely. It's just so sad. I did see in the article that the perp admitted guilt, saying he lured her into a vacant apartment and he killed her within an hour. Per baby never had a chance. :'(

One investigating officer had already been reprimanded for missing some key evidence in the vacant apartment.

I'm guessing the resignation was an option given to him in lieu of termination.
