Won\'t try this one again.

My new fruit adventure of the week.

Looks innocent enough from the outside :waggingfinger

Behold, yet another alien fruit.

The smell is absolutely incredible. I can't explain the smell other than to say it is fresh, sweet, and fruity smelling LOL The texture is disgusting. The taste is way too sour. I hated it. My husband on the other hand, loved it. He slurped the insides out just like you would an oyster. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

I was absolutely shocked to find out that it is a Maracuya, otherwise known as "Passion Fruit".

Not a big fan, have tried that one before.

Thanks for sharing the experience(s) with us!

We have a native passion flower here in Georgia. a/k/a May Pops. The flower is beautiful, the fruit is not so good but it does smell amazing.

Wow, I didn't know such a thing existed in GA. The flower is spectacular!

I have them growing wild in several places. The flower is very pretty. From what I understand it originally came from Latin America and the flowers come in different colors. My sister if Florida has grown a red one that is just as beautiful but it won't over winter here in Georgia.

It also has some religious significance.......
PASSION FLOWER is a woody vine that has unusual blossoms. Roman Catholic priests of the lat 1500's named it for the Passion (suffering and death) of Jesus Christ. They believed that several parts of the plant, including the petals, rays, and sepals, symbolized features of the Passion. The flower's five petals and five petallike sepals represented the 10 apostles who remained faithful to Jesus throughout the Passion. The circle of hairlike rays above the petals suggested the crown of thorns that Jesus wore on the day of His death.

The priests who named the vine found it growing in what is now Latin America. Today, gardeners in many parts of the world raise passion flowers for the blossoms. The flowers may be almost any color. Their diameter ranges from 1/2 inch to 6 inches. Most of the approximately 400 species of passion-flowers grow in warm regions of North and South America. The maypop, the common PASSION FLOWER of the Southern United States, bears a yellow fruit. These fruits taste slightly sour or very sweet, depending on the species. Passion flowers grown for passionfruit juice are Passiflora edulis flavicarpa.

In recipes (smoothie, desserts) it is awesome. The smell of the fruit is great. I can't just eat it like that though, I have a texture thing with foods. :))

I seriously almost just lost my cookies. Looked like second hand green peas hidden inside a fruit. Did I ever mention I hate green peas. I need a rolaid.
