Who is your pick?

The short list for Supreme Court Justice are rumored to be, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, and Raymond Kethledge. All three are "Conservative" by most measures, but not all three appear to be originalists.

My pick of those three is Kethledge. He is NOT from Yale or Harvard, making him unique in his educational background, and he appears to be more "citizen friendly" calling Chevron v NRDC, in which the Court gave deference to government agencies to interpret their mission, a blatant mistake. In Turner v. US he actually said that the Constitution should be interpreted as the words were commonly understood when it was written and ratified. That's a winner statement right there.

Kavanaugh isn't necessarily a bad pick, but his judicial history is one of a follower, and as a Justice on the DC circuit, he has shown a deference to the government. He is a conservative in ideology, but IMO not the best pick to apply and interpret the Constitution. Barrett has a great personal story, and I would like to see the idiot Democrats on the Judiciary Committee go up against her, but she is too inexperienced at a higher level to be a reliable pick. When you appoint someone her age to the High Court, she had better be who you thought she would be, and she seems a little squishy.
 
While part of me would like the MOST origionalist available...

More important to me is 'confirmable'...
Remember the mess when Reagan nominated Robert Bork...
The left crucified him (and Reagan)... Bork did not get confirmed.

I don't see any of the three having a major problem. The Democrats will posture and cry and try to stall, but we now have that nuclear option. It should be fairly easy to convince the Lady from Maine and at least two Democrats up for reelection in Trump terrirory to vote Yes.

Same here. My gut tells me that whoever his pick is, that person will be approved. Now the Dems will make a good show against the person, but that will also come back and bite them in the butt during mid-terms.

No matter who Trump picks they'll pitch a big hissy fit. After all, they have nothing else better to do while sitting by the mailbox waiting for that free check. Just to add insult to injury and assuming all rumored potential nominees are equally qualified, personally I think Trump should go with a female just to see how the dems and libs will attack her. No matter who the pick, they will attack.

That is odd... growing up the Catholics were not even supposed to take birth control... let alone support abortion. But they were less likely to witness or protest an abortion clinic I guess:dunno::cheesy: So people do not fear they will make policy from the bench?

I will say, I would like government out of morality and leave that to the church. Church pastors have to reach people's hearts to make our country better... not the government.

The progressives want to make policy from the supreme court, I would like the supreme court to enforce the boundaries set by the Constitution.
 
He went with the easy choice, the Washington insider. He is not an originalist and shows great deference to the Congress and to the Executive departments. That will make him the worse choice from a libertarian small government standpoint, but the choice that should make his confirmation relatively painless.

They will do ANYTHING... to be against Trump...
Even if they make absolute fools of themselves.

And IMO the public is well aware of this...
Wonder how long until the public revolts against the media that insists on promoting those protests...
While ignoring the REAL news of how our country is being repaired and healing!
 
Ya know...

Back when the protests happened in VA, the first summer of Trumps POTUS...
It was revealed a company was advertising for protestors... folks would sign up... be bused to the protest, fed, housed, and at the end of the day... given a crisp $C note...

JawJa thinks this is still going on... that a significant number of the protestors... are paid warm bodies... that came out for some cash.
In other words: It is ALL staged for media perception!
