Which translation do you use?

I usually bounce around between KJV, NKJV, NIV, NASB and sometimes others (but I have to look those up).

KJV- Because I believe it to be the most accurate translation in the English language.
NKJV- Because our pastor teaches from it.
NIV- Because it is much easier for me to read, and for a comparison on wording.
NASB- Ditto

For deeper reading/studying, these are my two most valuable tools to add to my bibles:
Strong's Exhaustive Concordance
Manners and Customs of the Bible

English Standard Version because that's what the pastor preaches from. Makes it a little easier to follow along. ;)

^This. The more I'm in it the more I like it.

I also like the NIV and NKJV. The KJV is a good reliable, but I find it to be a bit less accurate than newer translations because of how the meaning of words have changed. But still a good Bible.

KJV, NKJV, and another translation that I can't currently recall. I've never used a "Message" translation. I also have a Strong's concordance. My "study Bible" is my favorite, because it will actually give some background and some word meanings, etc.

I most often use the New American Standard Bible. It is a word for word translation, and highly accepted for its accuracy (which is why I finally settled on it.) I also use the ESV (also a word for word translation) in study. I'm a big fan of the Amplified Bible for in depth study. (I'm "wordy" - my form of "nerdy" so I enjoy the full range that this translation offers.) The NKJV is great, too!

Note: I'm not a big NIV fan. My biggest problem with it is that it leaves out God's deity in pronouns (He, We, etc.) It's more of a thought for thought translation, with some word for word.

I'm thankful that we have translations to use period. For so many years, Christians weren't allowed to posses a Bible and read what God said in His love letters to us. Many faithful followers were killed for their bravery so I don't take my privileges lightly. His Word has endured and I'm going to do my part to defend it. With all that said, I use the NLT and I also go to the original Greek and Hebrew to study as well.

I use the Douay-Rheims bible and the Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition Catholic bibles.
So there are different versions of the Catholic bible, too? Interesting. I did not know that. Back around 2003-ish I worked with a rather hauty young lady who happened to be raised in a Catholic family. Her grandmother's birthday was coming up, and she mentioned she wanted to buy her a new bible for a gift. I asked her what version, thinking KJV/NKJV/NASB/NIV/etc, she quickly stated, rather loudly, "Version? There are NO versions of the bible. It's just THE HOLY BIBLE!". So, from then on I believed Catholics only had one book, and it's name was THE HOLY BIBLE...lol.

I use/ have many.

I have 17 on My PC, of which my Favorite, for now, until I can find a better Hebraic to English version, is the World English w/Apocrypha.

I Physically take with me when, I am Working/ Traveling, my 4th KJV, which like those before it, is Taped/ Glued/ Stapled together & Heavily Highlighted, & noted within.

I also have a Hebrew Concordance of the Tanach.

Shalom!!

I grew up with the KJV... so am used to 'Shakespearean English'...
I stumbled onto the NASB as a young adult... liked it.
Most of my reference books (Strongs concordance, commentaries, etc) are based on the NASB... so when I am doing serious study I go back to that.

About a decade ago... got a copy of Gene Petersons' The Message... kinda fun reading... however I would not recommend it for a new Christian.

As one that has been a student of Scripture, toured the holy land, studied (on my own) Biblical archeology, done many things in service at the church, and the Lord saw fit to teach me the true meaning of Grace... I can say I do not think which translation one reads is really that important.
What I believe is important... is seeking a real relationship with God! If one truly seeks that relationship, God will reward that quest with that knowing deep within ones soul... of His presence and love! The rest is a daily walk; full of peace and joy... even when one works too hard.
Do we always stay on track... no... we are human. Yet our loving Father-God understands and teaches us through our own stumbles.

Honestly... not sure how I would make it through life without our heavenly Father watching over us!

Long ago, .... When I had more, & much darker hair, ... I began to question why many a Preacher would speak from the Pulpit, as if he lived in King Jame's England, but when he came down from the Pulpit he spoke like I did.

I then began to question, why the King James' English was used in the "The Scriptures", when there were different Bibles, written in languages that preceded the "English language". Initially that drew me to a study of the Greek Language, Greek History, Greek Culture, etc., & after having begun to wear out my First Bible, I also Prayed for Knowledge, & Guidance.

It Shocked me to learn that there are more than 100 different Greek Manuscripts that do not agree with each other, & yet many a "out-standing" Bible Authority consistently refers to the Greek. It Shocked me to learn the History of the Greeks, especially the Syrian-Greeks, & how they had treated the "Jews" during the time of the Maccabees, as well as what Antiochus Epiphanies did at the Second Temple. It also Shocked me to learn that Homosexuality & Bestiality were Prevalent throughout Greek Culture.

I walked away from the Greek.

I wanted nothing to do with The Latin, for I had been raised Catholic, & had learned a great deal about Catholicism's history, & practices. In fact, when little, I had been an "Altar Boy", although I was never abused.

I then, back then, settled on the NIV Translation, when it first came out, & Largely Upheld it, for it allegedly came from the best of the "Coine Greek", as well as "Hebrew".

"If", I did not have this Lust For Knowledge & Truth, .... then I probably would have stopped at the NIV, but ... The Father wasn't done with me.

It then "dawned on me", that the "Covenant People", those who were/are called "My People" by Our Creator, more than 180 times in the Tanach/ Old Testament alone, .... Spoke the Hebrew Language.

The Scriptures, have that language as it's Root. In fact, where many have taught that the Hebrew had been replaced by the Greek, during The Messiah's Time, is at the least Extremely misleading, & Frankly a Lie, which can be easily verified by the book of Acts, as well as many a historical Roman Secular document.

But, as far as the NIV? I began to compare it more Intensely to the KJV, & other Older Bibles such as the Geneva, & then it quickly came to me, that the NIV, had many "Corruptions" that had been brought about by Modern Man, so, ... I respectfully moved it to the side, & went back to the KJV, as far as a Physical, "within reach" Bible, but even it, has many "issues". The KJV, upon it's 1st printing earned the name "The Wicked Bible" cuz' the printer made several errors in it, including "Thou shalt commit Adultery".:nun:

The KJV, up to the early 1800s included the Apocrypha, & then it was "Administratively Removed" cuz' the American & British Bible Societies were "Inspired to remove it". I thought "Dang! Wasn't King James & his Court Spiritually Inspired to have the KJV written?!?!?"

Anyway, I'm getting "long winded" here, so.... I Physically use the KJV, wherever I go, but, I'm Seeking a better Translation of the Hebrew & Aramaic.

"a real relationship with God!", .................... Absolutely Brother, ... It Is Life Itself.:agreed:

"Do we always stay on track... no... we are human." :amen: ..................... I'll go further, ... Until We are changed, per the Prophecies, We are capable of Sinning as King David did, every single hour of Our Lives. David held the most Fantastic Key of Life, ... He Absolutely Knew how to Repent, & Praise His Creator, & YAHWEH Loved David for this.

Myself, .... There is a Nano-particle of Separation between what I used to Live like, & what I Strive for, but I am Light Years from being "Perfect".

"Honestly... not sure how I would make it through life without our heavenly Father watching over us!":amen::amen::amen:

Have Ya'll Researched the History of The Tanach (Old Testament), & the New Testament?

Do You know who put them together individually, & as a Whole?
