You're not going to believe this.

Saying he was pleased but not satisfied with the progress of Chicago Public Schools during his tenure, Daley recounted asking city teachers to spend 15 more minutes to teach to help disadvantaged students, but the union refused without additional pay.

“Our teachers work six hours a day. Six hours a day. What do you think of that? Thirty hours a week,” Daley said. “I’m not condemning all the teachers, but you know, there has to be a time and place for everybody to have to give to the less fortunate. … Unions have to understand, that you have a responsibility. It’s not just a paycheck.”

Interesting article.

30 hours a week.... pffft

(A lil off topic)

We did the controls for Kauffman Stadium (KC Royals) outfield fountain. It was a "union" job. I wasnt aloud to touch a screw driver. I had to stand there and tell them what to do. When their break time came they wouldnt even finish screwing in the wire... The job took 5 days, we coulda been outta ther in 2. Usually when Im on a jobsite we work till the job is done, breaks are only if you need them..

Unions don't promote better work ethics. They only promote themselves. What kind of legacy do you leave behind when a whistle blows for break and you have to lay down your screwdriver immediately? I say let all the unions fail and vote for representatives and senators who will break their backs.

I doubt they'll get much sympathy from us self-employed guys on here. Or guys like me who have worked 3 jobs when needed.

I've shared with some on here...I'm a business owner, I have a contracting business and a self-storage place. So I stay pretty busy as is. When my daughter started college, I was h-bent that we wouldn't borrow the money to pay for it because I didn't want her or us strapped with the debt. So at almost 50 years old I started a third business and worked nights and weekends to pay for her education. I was very fortunate; before the economy tanked I made enough money to pay for her entire college expense plus a couple of remodels on the house.

So sorry, I'm not feeling sorry for them.
