Union: East Coast Port Strike to Start Tuesday

Good question. We know one of the managers at Walmart and he told us to buy TP before it is gone.
Last time I was at my son's in Idaho when the TP shortage started, so were my other son and DIL... by the time the three of us got back home, TP was getting scarce. :cantbelieve: My kids in Hawaii really held their breath... by the time they got home, the hoarding had started and Costco and grocery stores were bare. Like me, they had just a few rolls left.

Last time I thought, "I have 8 rolls left, I am not going to Costco and be a part of the idiots causing fear and panic by hording." :horse2:

The news started reporting that people were hoarding TP. (Later the stores limited how many you could purchase at once.)

I know they say our stores and cities really only have 3 or 4 days of groceries if trucks can't get to the city and deliver to the stores. That all spirals if we all panic purchase.

I have one unopened 18 pack... and tonight I bought another large pack from the grocery store. If I am at Costco and can buy my usual from them, I will.

Maybe this strike will bring the economy to a halt and hurt Kamala's election odds. If so, it'll be just fine with me.

Back in the 80's when the air traffic folks went on strike, President Reagan fired them all. Airports belong to the government, same as ports. Walk off the job and you might just be out of a job for good.

Biden and the Democrats are too up the union's butts to fire them.

If Trump wins, they'll change their tune and negotiate a contract rather quickly. Otherwise, he'll fire each and every one of them. Wait and see...
It also shows how much better off we would have been had Trump been re-elected as more manufacturing and companies were coming back to the States. Trump made it easier to manufacture here, and more expensive to go international.

China makes so much of what we depend on... it is really a bad place to be. We found out during Covid, most of our medicine is no longer manufactured in the USA. They were saying we were short antibiotics and other critical medicine.

Oh, I have head more about the automated yards that will be the future... so nightmares like this, being held captive by people who don't want to work, will not happen.

In my life, strikes tend to end in the demise of the industry or the company. The airline industry was great at collapsing once strong employers.

It would be better if we brought manufacturing back to the USA though.

I am glad these patriotic union members have the good of the country in mind and are not just themselves. Supply chain issues have been a cancer on the economy so let's make it worse. Firstly not everyone deserves top pay for manual labor. You earn higher pay by work ethic, skills and knowledge. I can't imagine a longshoreman job takes a degree from MIT. Secondly these sheep are only expediting the introduction of automation by businesses. Machines don't strike, call in sick, require sick leave, file lawsuits, eat up workman's comp or just generally irritate you. Given the power I would give them 24 hours to get back to work or replace them. I swear these unionized folks are some of the dumbest SOB's I have ever heard of.

Where's Ronald Reagan when we really need him?

.... 'member the air traffic controllers ??

same kinda thing, amiright?

Went to Costco last night before church, not a roll of TP to be found and lots of people looking for it. Luckily the Queen was able to order some from Walmart and the order filled today. Diapers and diaper wipes are also short. It’s very possible that the storm is responsible for some of it but I’d make sure to have a spare handy just in case this thing lingers.
