This Is Just Odd

This is one of those strange stories. Apparently there is a church (Christian) that is now hosting an Islamic congregation in its building. Back when I was a Christian, I would have been scratching my head, and I'm still scratching my head even now.

I can see loaning space. I used to go to a Presbyterian church with no space to hold functions. So the church across the street would loan us their space. I can see allowing the use of a facility for non-religious purposes. The Lutheran church where I live often hosts graduation parties, community fundraisers, and the like because they have the facilities to do so. The other churches (except the Catholic church) do not.

But, religious services are an entirely different thing. Maybe if the local mosque had a fire, you might help them out for a week or two until they find a location. But, for 8 years? To the point that they outnumber your own congregation?

A chapel on a ship, for example, might have to be interfaith by necessity. But, I find this story very strange.

I think it is a nice story and not really that odd. The group needed a place to worship on Friday nights and the church was apparently not using the space on that night and invited them to do so. I would assume that building a church for that many will cost a lot and maybe they are working towards that. Churches here meet at schools for years until they can raise the funds for a building. The one that is at the school I am at has been there for 10 or 11 years I believe. (Since they meet on Sunday's a local church would not be able to accommodate them using their facility.)

That is an odd story, or at least unusual. Glad to see the church doing what, in my opinion, a church should be doing....helping their neighbors. The plus side is they can keep tabs on at least 300 Muslim men. (Ok, I just added that to ruffle some feathers)

Yeah Church!!!

:p

I have mixed feelings.

While it could be used as a means of building trust and friendship between the two faiths, and even a ministry opportunity; I can see some conflict in beliefs there as well.
