She seems to think the $3 billion in tax incentives NY was offering Amazon was cash.

"What’s great is that our economy, our local economy, is already growing. So I firmly believe that if we want to take that $3 billion dollars that we were willing to give to Amazon and invest it in our local community, we can do that. We can make those jobs. We can make 25,000 jobs. But we don’t have to give away and allow our subway system to crumble so that Amazon essentially owns a part of New York City. We can create 25,000 jobs with Mom-and-Pops; we can create 25,ooo jobs with companies that are willing to come to the table, but we should not be giving away our infrastructure, our subway system, our schools, our teachers' salaries, our firefighters' budgets, to a company that has not shown good faith to New Yorkers. And we can ask for more because we deserve more."

She's an idiot. It's what you get when you let idiots vote.

An author that I like had the best idea, you get to vote if you paid more in taxes than you receive in benefits.
 
I have mixed feelings on the concept of giving tax breaks and such to companies for moving into a particular place. While I think there is a time and place for it, the practice is sometimes not financially productive.

Having said...yeah, this woman is totally clueless about economics and business. Besides interning one season for Ted Kennedy (that's scary), her work career has been as a community organizer (sound familiar?) and working in restaurants and as a bartender.

Nothing wrong with working in restaurants or bars, but exactly how does that qualify her for anything she's doing now?

Of course, how did Obama's experience qualify him to be president?

Do Democrats even think about this kind of thing?
 
Financial incentives to attract business is fine with me. There are winners and losers but it creates a competitive environment.

From my understanding, NYC was on the top of Amazon's list before the tax incentives were offered. The organization freely told NY officials they were being considered as well as other cities. NY officials took it upon themselves to "sweeten" the pot to get the 25,000 jobs.

Seems there is more demand from local govts for a specific business to move to their area...
Then there are businesses to move there...

So obviously the good old and time tested principle of:
Supply and Demand
Is working!

Another thought...
Either AOC is a blooming idiot...
Or she is the best actor yet to win an election.

IMO she is DANGEROUS!

Amazon had been in discussions with NYC for months before the entire bidding war thing. The plan all along was to get them to up their offer. The only surprise was that they split it with Virginia.

From my understanding, Amazon didn't split it between NY and VA. It's split between VA and Nashville.
 
Regardless...

I am thankful we are NOT gonna have about 50K more young liberals move to the metro area...

That may well have been the final blow to turn GA blue...

IMO the $$$ is NOT worth it!
 
I wonder why they are locating in N VA... which is right next to DC...

Bezos has lots of govt contracts already...
Wonder how deep he has his liberal fingers into the govt???
 
Mrs. Mac attended an Amazon meeting a couple of weeks ago, where they were talking about plans and impact from moving into Music City. The big "A" has their stuff together.

Glad I still own their stock ... lol

They announced NYC and Chrystal City, VA as part of HQ2. Nashville is an "operations center", not a part of the second headquarters. Every article ever written about the selection has said that HQ2 was split between NYC and VA with Nashville as an operations center with supply chain responsibility.

I'm well aware of that having been the plan originally, before they pulled out of the NYC deal. Before Amazon decided on both NYC and VA, Nashville was also in consideration for HQ2. It's not yet known what location will replace NYC, but Nashville is rumored to be back into consideration.
 
I'm trying to figure this chick out. Her ideas, her bills, etc are not coming from her, for the most part. I totally believe that she's being fed this stuff, she just doesn't have the depth of thought to come up with it on her own.

But she's also gotten very impulsive, almost like she things she knows enough now to just shoot from the hip, and it's starting to scare even her fellow progressives.

She's entertaining, if nothing else. The quest is; will her start burn bright or will she crash and burn?

I think she is part of the the Pelosi rebellion. The DSA isn't happy that she was reelected speaker, and the progressives have rallied around AOC's pretty face of the "New Socialists". How long she lasts depends on how much power Pelosi has, and if the recent standoff with Trump is any indication, she still holds the big stick.

I think she's handpicked, and by whoever put Obama into power. Too many similarities between the two.

Except AOC might not have the polish that Obama had. They should have groomed her a little longer.
 
Someone (forgot where I heard/read it)...

Suggested her 'purpose'... is to create a radical left platform...
Then the plan is to nominate a moderate for POTUS in 2020...
And attempt to pull away enough of the Trump vote to win the WH.
Yeah... it might work...
OTOH... Trump is VERY popular... regardless of what the MSM says.

Side note... now that the govt shutdown stuff is behind us...
The markets are improving!
My portfolio is up almost 4% today... expect some more this week.
