The Braves

Is this going to be another one of those seasons where we have to send them out of town to win a game?

I just wish they had been honest and said that they were shooting for the 2017 season. Of course then they wouldn't have sold any season tickets for two years. I'm also more than a little concerned that they are too optimistic about 2017 also. I certainly don't see the key pieces in place or the awesome minor league talent that I saw in 1990. Maybe some guys will get fired up later in the season and if they can make some good moves this winter they will get there.

I thought they did say they were rebuilding with the expectation of being competitive in 2017. Based on how young much of the minor league talent is, it may be 2018 before they actually think about the wildcard or division.

All I recall them saying was that they had to make salary cap room. That was a fact, they did. But then when they started to buy a lot of minor league talent with that money they still pointed to some of the veterans as proof that they would be competitive in 2015 and 2016 even though the reality was that they probably wouldn't.

2018 sounds more doable to me than 2017. I think there are still a lot of missing pieces to the puzzle, and the front office is part of that. The 2014 changes didn't worked out as planned. I think that putting two guys in to replace Shurholz this spring shows that McGuirk is just about out of ideas.

It's just like Atlanta teams to settle for second best. I love to see them hire a great manager, but they've probably blown all their stash on a stadium that will look like a ghost town :(

Fredi wasn't the best manager but this year can't be blamed on him. The players still play the game. How about cleaning out the front office, that would be a great rebuilding start. I'm a long time baseball fan and love the intricacies of the game but his team is just ridiculous.

The former NFL manager of the year didn't suddenly forget how to do his job. This year's team should be playing in Rome and Gwinett so it's only fitting that they just move the G-Braves manager inside the perimeter for the rest of the year.

Finding out you’ve been fired is never easy, but imagine finding out the way that Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez did late Monday.

An hour or so after the Braves’ 8-5 series-opening loss to the Pirates, a person familiar with the situation said Gonzalez received an email notifying him of his scheduled flight to Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon.

That was a bad sign, since the four-game series in Pittsburgh runs through Thursday
