Pressure Cooker

I was given a Cuisinart pressure cooker as a gift. I have never had a pressure cooker before. So far I have cooked baked beans (which used to take me 4 plus hours in a dutch oven) and I've also cooked some short beef ribs. Both came out excellent in a very short time.

Y'all have any reviews (pros & cons) and recipes for me

Me either until now. As a child I always thought they were dangerous (or risky explosion) in the kitchen. I remember my grandmother using one, it sounded like a distant locomotive in her kitchen

My mother says they're great for pinto beans and cabbage (not together in the same pot). She says you can cook anything in one; it's an express version of cooking. They used to scare me, but I'll bet the new ones are nice. Check the interwebz for recipes. I did a search and got tons of links. Everything from food.com to pressurecookerdiaries.com.

Me too!! LOL It had that thing that spun around on top... she always had some kind of meat in there, porck chops I think. When she used that thing it took all I had not to throw up in the house both from the smell and the fear that the thing was gonna blow!

It's funny this is posted. While Mom was here for New Year's she asked if I'd thought of getting one. I told her that story and ended it with, "no." Let me know what all you come up with. Does the new one sound like a freight train?

No! This thing is like a crockpot on steroids as far as I know now. It is very quiet and has many safe features where it will not operate unless all the safety devices are engaged

Hmmmmm..... in that case I may have to check them out. Also, you may send some of that corned beef and cabbage over here. I'll send you my address when it's ready!

I have one that I used to use quite a bit, but haven't used it in years. I may need to break it out. I used to cook beef tips in mine, super yummy!

I'm with lots of others on here, they scare me. I've seen that little thing blow off more than once. Good luck dav and stay safe. LOL

I LOVE my pressure cooker - I use it to cook chicken, beef stew, corned beef or pot roast in regularly. Hubby has used it as a pressure fryer to cook wings and fried chicken a couple of times too.

Whimp!! This ain't grammas old Presto cooker you would put on a burner and crank it up and have to babysit it waiting for the dreaded explosion. This is electronic, actually looks like a big crockpot on the counter, and has numberous safeties on it. I just about have zero concerns on it rocketing thru the ceiling.

I think I'll cook some baby back ribs this weekend. I'll report back with pics :taunt

I have heard that those are great. I have had two of the old versions to blow the safety and ended up having to paint the ceiling. I may try a new version but I am done with the old ones.

Fall off the bone tender!! After browning in a skillet, it took all of 35 min to pressurized the capsule, cook, and naturally let the pressure calm down. Bad picture, my flash is spent on the camera

OK; bring on the pressure cooker when you come back to visit -- which we hope will be soon! :race

My grandma and dad used to make the best bean soup in a pressure cooker.
