on the question of why did God allow evil

A question I have often heard is why did God allow evil? The other day, I heard Ravi Zacharias (possibly the greatest Christian thinker of our age, IMHO) talking, and he said essentially this:

God is love. Love always requires freedom. If a person is forced to love, then that is not love. God does not force people to come to Him. So, if a person has freedom to choose good (love/God), then the opposite choice must also exist (hatred/satan). Therefore, God had to allow evil to exist in order to truly love and give us the freedom of choice to love Him back.

Awesome.

Has no one ever expressed those thoughts before? I like Ravi, but my dad gave me the same answer when I was 9 yrs old.

How could he not? He gave us free will.

Am I the only one that both loves and hates that free will deal?
:hiya

That is exactly what led to the conversation, when I was curious 9 yrs old, where my dad explained free will, the existence of evil, and the plan of salvation.
