Trump was absolutely correct when he said in a statement yesterday that Biden had turned "a national triumph into a national disaster" with his handling of the crisis. "We proudly handed the Biden Administration the most secure border in history," the statement read. "All they had to do was keep this smooth-running system on autopilot. Instead, in the span of a just few weeks, the Biden Administration has turned a national triumph into a national disaster. They are in way over their heads and taking on water fast."
Sen. Chris Murphy, D-NJ tweeted after visiting the border, ""In a corner, I fought back tears as a 13 yr old girl sobbed [sic] uncontrollably explaining thru a translator how terrified she was, having to be separated from her grandmother and without her parents." He later clarified the girls parents were already in the US, she was separated from her grandmother who had been accompanying her.
Was the girl's parents really inside the US and was that really her grandmother? I ask this because a few weeks ago, I read information from a recently retired border patrol agent that most of these unaccompanied children were taken from their villages by coyotes dealing in drugs and sex trafficking. The person claiming to be a family member with the child is often one of the coyotes or a person paid by them. Many of the unaccompanied children were forced to the border with threats their parents would be killed if they didn't go along. They give the names of people who are supposedly their parents or family member already in the US, but those people are part of the human trafficking operation.
Trump's policy of having immigrants apply for asylum while living in their home country and tightening up security at the border helped with the reduction of human trafficking into the US. Biden should have stuck with that plan. Instead of allowing more to enter who show up at the border, he needs to have the Border Patrol prevent them from crossing. Let them congregate on the Mexican side of the border and have the Mexican government provide humanitarian aid to them; they are after all Mexican citizens.
