The garage door dudes are coming tomorrow at 10 AM to install insulated garage doors. Our builder grade doors held up okay over the 15 years since we had the house built, but they are on their last leg. Of course, Mrs. Reacher backing into one of the rails about 9 years ago didin't help. Those thin builder grade door are SO THIN, you can feel the wind blowing through them in the winter.

I'll let you know how those guys do tomorrow in case you ever need any. 8)

Please do keep us updated. The ones on this house are 19 years old, and they SUCK, to be polite. Are you getting new openers and everything? I want pics, and names if you're pleased. Oh, and a $$$ amount. (Not askin' for much, am I? :D)

I sure will. As I mentioned in another thread, our garage is directly under the living room and it sounds like a Cessna 150 landing when we open or close the door. We are having the belt driven openers put in to reduce the noise. The doors aren't real fancy, but they will be 100% better than what we have. They are the Faux, or as Mrs. Reacher calls them, the FOX Carriage doors. :laugh

I have a drive-under like yours, only it's under my bedroom/bathroom. GAH!!! So, like this morning when my sister left for work at 5:45 (she stayed here for a couple of days because her power is still out in Rome), GAH!!!!!!!

I used Affinity Garage Doors from Dallas. The guy got here at 10 AM and stayed until 8 PM  He took out both the old doors and openers, put in new doors and belt driven openers. They are SO much more quiet than the old ones it's unbelievable!!!!!

The new garage controls give the time and tenperature. They have a lock feature for vacation and a light switch in case you need light without the doors being operated. They also have a motion sensor that turns the light on when you walk in the area. I know I'm easily impressed, but these door ROCK! :DN

Their service man was on time, polite and did the job right. I have to give them a BIG :thumbsup for a job WELL DONE at a reasonable price. :firstplace

So, Nosy Nellie wants to know - what was the reasonable price? You can PM it if you don't want to blab to everybody about how rich you are. :D

Thank you!!! The Dave Ramsey way is the best...I haven't always lived that way, but am striving to do that now in every area. I look forward to the pics.

Phase 1

Thanks. I'm tickled with them. It's hard to describe how quiet those belt driven openers are. I guess I've been used to the loud ones for so long.

I prefer a carport. This is the second house we've had with a double carport, and it just works out much better for us. We do have a "boat door" in our basement, and that's exactly what we use it for. I replaced the door on it a couple of years ago. I don't have an opener on it, but don't really need one.

I have always loved carports, because I'm a purist, and I just like the look of a carport. But I must say that I have become spoiled with my enclosed garage. I don't do coats or umbrellas or most any bad weather stuff.

The garage doors are awesome JR! What is even more awesome (in my humble opinion) is that color of your house - I absolutely love sage green and it looks like that is the color of your house - is that right?

then you would like my house. It's slightly darker than sage green...a nice medium woodsy green.

Yes it's the house color. I'm a green kinda guy, but NOT in the liberal sense :WO

I would like a carport....if I lived in Key Largo :laugh

You'd have to admit...the old builder grade doors were pretty much shot-out. I mean "toe up from the flo up"

Both were torn apart at the top and were about to fall out of the tracks

Yes. It had to be re-sided last year because water had gotten down behind the wood. Our drummer (Adam) does that type of work and replaced the old siding with hardy board. He did a fine job.
