Yesterday, SW North Dakota was treated to high winds (about 43 mph with gusts into the 60s). Since it's so dry here, these are dangerous fire conditions. Last night a worst-case scenario came true. The town of Bucyrus, which is down the road from me, is totally gone. As yet, no one knows the cause of the fire.
Although I have a new camera and I'm curious, I just can't bring myself to drive over and see it. To me it's a fire. To the people of Bucyrus, it's their lives.
BUCYRUS, N.D. — Looking like something out of an apocalyptic Hollywood film, much of the small town of Bucyrus was burned to the ground after being swept up in a raging wildfire Wednesday.
Aided by winds in excess of 60 mph, a fire estimated by firefighters to be nearly 10 miles long continued to burn into the night in Adams County, swallowing up several homes in its path and causing evacuations and panic.
