Middle school locker question

I was looking at the suggested supply list for our son's school and at the bottom of it, it says that lockers will be given after the paperwork that is sent home on the first day is returned with the $5 rental fee. I'm not concerned with having the $5, but do all middle schools rent their lockers?! I thought that was just something that came with being in middle school.

My son never used his locker because the times they gave them access were so restrictive there was no point in even bothering. He said lots of other kids did use them, though.

$2 is what we paid at his school last year.

Ok. I just thought it was wierd. You would think they would have mentioned that at the parent meeting when they talked about lockers. I just happened to stumble upon it because I was looking for a supply list for a friend.

Yes, they rent them. We did it last year but my son rarely used it. It's nominal, so we may do it again.

Yep paid 3.00 last year..son never even used it..since he didn't have text books to use what was the point..he kept all his folders in his book bag but he liked knowing he had it to use in case he needed it :laugh

5.00 for us, don't think DS used his that much either. He did like having it just in case. So, we'll rent it again.

Some teacher will not let book bags in the class ...thus the locker. These poor kids have such a short time to get to classes; they have no time to stop at lockers.

There will be scheduled time to go to lockers. Generally every two periods.

Before the connections class...so they can get gym clothes, since they will have no gym locker... and two periods prior to going home. So, in 5th period the teacher will let them go to lockers.

Some teachers allow it as class starts, some give a few extra minutes before the end of class prior to the bell ringing, some in the middle of class. The 6th grade teachers try to stagger them a bit, so they are not so crowded. Plus, they still have problems getting into their locker combinations. It can be chaos if they are all at their lockers at one time.

They have 3 minutes to change classes ... hardly enough time to go to the restroom.

That being said, the little heathens don't know how to behave anyway :Stick....so much more time than that they would mostly be expelled for fighting. :poke2 :dunno

They do get gym lockers (for another $1), no teachers disallow book bags, and no teachers allow them any actual class time to go to lockers. That's how it is at Scoggins, anyway.

I think it's the same at SPMS. DS didn't take PE (plays football and wrestles) he needed to focus on math. I don't know how it will be this year.

My son took PE all year and if he was offered a PE locker, he didn't mention it.

I thought there was a PE requirement for middle school. Apparently not. With son playing football, and most likely wrestling again this next season, we may just go with all academics in school. He is also thinking he might play baseball next season too.

My dd used the heck out of her locker in middle school but refuses to use them in high school

One semester. (That includes all three years. I do believe they waive it though for kids that are taking one of the helping/remedial classes)

Back when I went to school at SPMS it was only a one time $2 fee and you had to sign all this paperwork or risk getting withdrawn I believe. Anybody could choose a PE locker to put their other clothes in during class and such, from what I know, there were no charges. Of course, I had always had a hard time because the length to get to classes were very short, so if I had to go all the way to the other building, I'd have to leave my stuff next to my desk in the period before because of the lack of time to get there. I didn't even have enough time to organize the locker, which resulted in it being very messy in there, it was like a pig sty!
