Waters refused to formally dismiss Mnuchin, whom she asked to stay for an additional 10 minutes, Bloomberg reported. "This is a new way and it's a new day. And it's a new chair. And I have the gavel," she said.

Mnuchin replied that he could not leave until Waters dismissed him. “You're supposed to take the gavel and bang it,” he said.

Waters then interrupted him, saying, “Please do not instruct me as to how I am to conduct this committee."

Mnuchin was eventually advised by staff that he was not obligated to stay and could leave. Before Waters ended the hearing at 5:30 p.m., Mnuchin withdrew his offer to return before the committee in May.

Maxine Waters Grills Big Bank CEOs About Student Loans — Which Were Nationalized in 2010

Rep. Maxine Waters seemed to demonstrate that she is in over her head Wednesday when she queried several bank executives about student loans even though they were nationalized under former president Obama nearly a decade ago.

Waters is the chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee -- the committee that regulates the banks.

During a hearing examining the practices of some of the nation's biggest banks, Waters complained to a panel of seven bank CEOs that there are more than 44 million Americans that owe … $1.56 trillion in student loan debt."

She added, “Last year, one million student loan borrowers defaulted, which is on top of the one million borrowers who defaulted the year before.”
She then demanded to know what they intended to do about this massive problem. “What are you guys doing to help us with this student loan debt?" she asked. "Who would like to answer first? Mr. Monahan, big bank.”

Bank of America chairman and CEO Brian Monahan replied, “We stopped making student loans in 2007 or so.”
Ms. Waters replied, “Oh, so you don’t do it anymore. Mr. Corbat?”

Said Citigroup CEO Michael Corbat: “We exited student lending in 2009.”

James Dimon, JPMorgan Chase chairman and CEO, finally spilled the beans: “When the government took over student lending in 2010 or so, we stopped doing all student lending,” he said.

Waters then quickly changed the subject to small businesses.

The Obama administration put the federal government in charge of student lending in 2010, with the intention of saving taxpayer dollars by “cutting out the middleman,” as President Barack Obama put it.

According to the Washington Times, "student loan debt exploded from $154.9 billion in 2009 to $1.1 trillion at the end of 2017" with current student debt "estimated at more than $1.5 trillion."

They are literally DRUNK on power...

Not much good is gonna come from this...
Other than the public seeing through them...
And hopefully learning to:
NEVER trust ANY polecat!

They may have stopped making new loans, but there are a LOT of existing ones out there. My Sons have several Wells Fargo loans active. Also rolled a bunch of the others up into lower cost loans.

Possible scenario...

The 'old guard' (antique) DIM polecats... the ones who have been in office for decades... may well be trying to keep the attention of the new radical far left... and IMO they are doing a poor job of it. One report I read... suggested Nancy P has lost control of the House of Reps.
Anyhow... if the old guard looses out to the young radicals... the younger ones will move the party FAR left (no offense FW)...
And almost guarantee a sweep by the GOP in 2020, as well as Trump having a second term.

Do I think the GOP and Trump are the best thing... NO...
OTOH... I think they are the best available!

One has to remember: When 2 people run for public office; one will win (third party candidates never win)...
So choose the one least likely to damage your life!
And IMO that is a no-brainer: the GOP is less destructive, and Trump is a LOT less destructive!

When the loans were nationalized every student had the option of converting their loan to a government backed lower interest loan or maintain their existing loan. Generally if there were less than 7 years left on a loan it was better to keep it.

Unfortunately some people were unaware that they could convert their existing loans.

OMG... these women make other women look inept... then because they are dumb, they blame it on Social Injustice. I am SOOOOOOOOO tired of SJW..... and them... I am tired of the Stupid Girl, and the Moron Maxine.... Both of them are Morons... but I think the young one should just be referred to as Stupid Girl.... until she grows up and becomes smart... which I am sure will not ever - never- happen ... because she is a SJW....

AOC Stupid Girl and Moron Maxine Waters took a stand against mansplaining in Congress this week — not a minute too soon :whacko: :whistle:

This morning, the headlines told us of yet another round of mansplaining in Congress between Treasure Secretary Steven Mnuchin and House Financial Services Committee Chair Maxine Waters (D-Calif.). During a hearing on Tuesday, Mnuchin announced that he had another “important” meeting, to which he was already going to be late. After some back and forth, where Waters made it very clear that he was free to leave, Mnuchin began to instruct her on how to end the meeting.
“Please dismiss everybody,” he said. “I believe you are supposed to take the gravel [sic] and bang it.” He then pretended to bang a gavel.

“Please do not instruct me as to how I am to conduct this committee,” Waters firmly replied.

This is the second time in less than a week that we’ve seen a male politician mansplain to their fellow female politicians what they think they should do in an unacceptably condescending tone. When former Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) tried to give newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) some advice about making it in Congress, his tips weren’t exactly well received – or asked for in the first place.

“She's the youngest person now there. I gave her just a few little tips on just being a good member of Congress, new. I don't think she really listened to a thing I said," Ryan said.
