Mail in voting

The left is running ads on youtube that praise mail-in voting, and criticize the Republicans for trying to take it away.

Problem is...they are great ads. Not altogether truthful, but excellent ads. If I didn't know better, I would buy into them.

I don't have a good feeling about this.

It's hard to argue against mail in voting with most people who don't have time or the capacity to understand some of the pitfalls of mail in voting. To most people, it just seems like a simple easy way to vote without having to drive to a voting location and stand in line to vote. Throw in a pandemic and people won't even begin to think about the pitfalls.

The Republicans need to figure out how to embrace mail in voting but still make it secure. It won't be easy.

ETA: Or, even better, figure out some secure way to do online voting. We do billions of $$ of transactions every single day via the internet so there has to be a way to create a secure online voting system too. As an IT nerd, I can safely say that this will be very difficult because someone has to hold the keys to the system and they must be trusted to not screw things up.

There are also tens of millions stolen every day by people who are scam artists. Scrub the registration roles and require id with the ballot.

Yeah, I can see a mass email scam where the email looks like it's directing you to the voting site, all these people actually vote on the fake site, sending copies of the actual IDs and all their info and the site owners auto vote all of the of the ids for the people they want instead at the real site.

Or a virus that intercepts a person's attempt to reach the voting site and redirects it to the fake site, while allowing all other traffic to go through.

Or a DNS hack to redirect people...

You get the idea. Too many ways to hack internet or mail voting.

"We encourage all registered voters in Georgia to vote in each and every election. Voting is accessible to all registered voters. Early voting is held for a couple of weeks prior to election day, which helps to reduce the time of standing in line for those who wait until election day to cast their votes. Absentee voting by mail is also available. All a registered voter needs to do is apply for an absentee ballot through their local election office. This form of voting is important for those who will be away from the area and those who can't physically participate at the polls. Be a responsible citizen by planning ahead on how and when you will vote."

I just came up with that off the top of my head. The state GOP and conservative PACs need to run ads similar to that.
