Your tax dollars at work...

I did not see where it states "illegals" (besides the people's comments) and read a quote in the AJC from an exchange student stating she waited to the last minute. :dunno Apparently the number of immigrants is typical according to Dekalb. While I am sure some are illegal, the thread headline is misleading.

Yeah, I'm sure it's just a big coincidence :

School officials apparently are unsure if the surge in immigrant students is related to the massive influx of unaccompanied immigrants
flooding across the U.S.-Mexico border, because they’re forbidden from inquiring about their citizenship, AJC reports.

“We don’t know their immigration status,” Nunez said.

Might be, might not since it states it is about the normal number. (which is not to say they were or weren't illegal in the past, but just that it is the same and no massive overwhelming increase, as of yet.) I expected an article on illegals overwhelming the schools. I had read the AJC article and thought you had something else. :dunno I am just stating that is what I thought when you posted the thread.

I'm not sure what your point is other than you do not like my choice of words. :dunno

Re: Illegals Flood Atlanta School...

Employers are required to use E-Verify to verify if an applicant is in the US legally as an immigrant or citizen before they hire them. The law also states welfare offices are to verify the same status as it's against the law for illegal immigrants to receive welfare benefits. Shouldn't our public schools be required to do the same thing, to make sure the enrolling students are legal immigrants or citizens of this country and to deny enrollment of those here illegally?

Yes, it is your choice of words. Illegal, when that is not fact. Here is a better article, that I have no issue with using "illegals" because it is about...illegals. http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/215059-obama-prepares-schools-for-enrollment-of-migrant-children

It also states that we received a lot less than other states, and I doubt all went to just one county. That specific county in your article states that it is about the same number so I do not see an overwhelming influx. :dunno

Should, maybe, but since it is a law that they can't the systems have to take anyone that signs up. :dunno

Re: Illegals Flood Atlanta School...

I am confused, my kid had to produce a certified copy of his birth certificate in order to attend school.
How do you get in school if you are illegal?

Okay you win, I will remove the word "Atlanta" from the title.

The schools have to use the birth certificate given. (Any foreign documentation) All kids that are legal are not born here. They can not ask for citizenship status.

:spitchick :thumbsup I am actually good with that.

Honestly, I do worry about disease. It is not the money or stress to the school systems that are my first thought.(though a valid concern) It is the fact that so many have not been vaccinated and I have no idea what is being brought in. That is very scary to me, so when I saw Atlanta, my first thought was, "oh crap!"

That's exactly what I was just thinking about. I hope each student at least has to have proof of current immunizations. I'm sure there's a loophole for "undocumented" students which is a direct threat to the health and welfare of each student, teacher, administrator, and their families.

Exactly. In the mean time, the government's FDA is more concerned about suntan lotion. ::)

It's not just DeKalb having issues, Cobb and Fulton Co.'s have also had issues. And there are probably many more that we have not heard about yet.

They will now be classified as "homeless" :

That's another example how the federal government interferes with the rights of states.
