Georgia High School Graduation rate falls

DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN. We pour enough money per capita on these kids to send them to a nice private school, and still 1/3 of the kids don't graduate. :faint

That just sucks. Really disgraceful. What the heck are we doing?
I believe that now that they are getting rid of the graduation tests and going to use EOCT tests on things the students actually learned we will see a rise in the graduation rate. :thumbsup

I think one of the reasons we are seeing more kids drop out of high school is because the educational system is the curriculum. It's geared toward every kid going to college. If we added a solid vocational curriculum to our education system, we would see an increase in graduation. We would also be preparing those who don't go to college for the work place upon graduation as well as preparing them to attend and succeed at higher vocational education schools.

That has been changed starting next year. Everyone will not be on the college track.

Yet, that still won't solve the problem with the declining graduation rate as we are not offering a curriculum to prepare those not going to college for the workplace. There still will not be an incentive to stay in school to begin the development of being self-suffi

We need a strong vocational ed program for those not going to college to better prepare them for the workplace or we will still have a problem with the graduation rate. I was reading a couple of months ago, our country has tens of thousands of skilled labor positions that employers cannot fill because there are not enough people who possess those skills. We need to establish a strong vocational program that will help set students up for advanced vocational training and apprenticeship programs for skill trade jobs.

Could not agree more. Even college-bound kids would benefit from some of this, though, because they would be trained in a backup profession.

Dr. Barge campaigned on that Fox and it is being changed. I am not fond of all parts of the change but it is a step in the right direction.
