Georgia Gov. Kemp announces $1K year-end bonus for teachers, state employees: 'Wholly appropriate'

I am a little mixed about this but overall I think it is a good use for the funds. I would like to have seen it returned more directly to the all tax payers and not just distributed among folks are who already supported off the tax dollar. Even not distributing it and using it to implement a state tax cut next year would be fine with me. Still keeping it out of the hands of the legislature to squander is ok in my book. I am not directing this towards anyone in particular but I don't understand why some die hard Trumpers poor mouth Kemp. I hear it particularly from a fishing buddy of mine who probably has a DJT tattoo on his arse. I personally think Kemp is at the top 1% of state executives in the country. His record is very impressive and conservative on most important issues. I could support him for POTUS. He sounds like Gomer Pyle but so does Clinton and Carter.

I also agree with giving bonuses to teachers. The article also mentioned "state employees" getting it but doesn't specify which state employees. I would like to know more about that; certainly not all, but some state employees get a pretty nice ride for not doing much. Enough about that, I would say I support it overall. I agree with Stonewall that it's much better than just throwing still more money at the lazy and worthless.

Speaking off...this entitlement crap is something the entire country has to address at some point. While I'm not opposed to a reasonable safety net, the concept of developing an entire segment of our population that won't work and lives in 100% dependency on taxpayer funds is killing us. This has to be a part of any serious discussion of balancing the budget and paying down the national debt. Put simply, it will be nearly impossible to do either without expanding our economy and moving most of the people in the entitlement system into the workforce.

I'll not bash Kemp on this one, I too would much rather see these funds go to working residents of our state rather than to abled bodies sitting around the house.

He (Kemp) mentioned how hard state employees worked during the pandemic. That’s BS

Unemployment is rising and most economists are predicting significant job loss next year, but Biden fluffs the federal workers.

Biden awarded them a 5.2% award this past August that went into effect at the beginning of FY 2024 (October 1, 2023). I always thought all federal employees' AND military pay raises had to be approved by Congress. The last raise the military received was after Congress approved it.

TSG, correct me if I'm wrong but I assume you meant Biden is buying votes, not Kemp? Or maybe both?
Yep. He's trying to get every govt worker in the country on his side. "When did Republican's ever give you a fat raise? Want me to do it again? Keep me in office!"
