Hmmm maybe we should do a thread on movies you never finished or wouldn't ever watch again if paid to. That would be interesting.
My wife and I only made it 30 minutes or so into Pulp Fiction before we took the DVD back to blockbuster. Complete Crap.
Have to agree. I think Tarantino is highly over rated and takes vulgar to a new level. If you rely on vulgarity, gratuitous violence or excessive computer generated effects I am out. While he is not much for generated effects he uses the other two to excess. Someone mentioned the best director in Hollywood active today, Eastwood for my money. The effects statement refers to almost anything released in the last five years. I would not walk to my basement to watch any of the Marvel or comic book character movies that are the rage. I like actors with actual talent, dialogue and a story line. Give me Bogart, Brando, Peck, Hepburn, Leigh, Cagney, Laughton, Gable, Stewart, Cooper, Davis, Newman, McQueen, Pacino, DeNiro, Hopkins, etc. Most of you my age or older know who these are actors by just their last name. The only two actors I have heard of in these made for children Marvel movies is Downey Jr. and that hot chick from The Horse Whisperer that I cannot even remember her name right now.
another great director (and writer) :
David Mamet
'House of Games' is an amazing movie and his film 'Spartan' (with Val Kilmer) is very, very good too.
Tarantino's films are all about dialogue and character arc...
Have you ever really watched these films ? ? ?
Vulgarity ? ? ?
Still the best fart scene ever!Blazing Saddles
Yes I have watched PF, R Dogs, H8 and tried to watch Kill Bill which I just thought was stupid. When every other word is MF, GD, F you it is what I consider vulgar. I have no problem with strong language or even violence in context to the situation being portrayed. The dialogue of straight vulgarity hints to me a lack of understanding of or lack of skill in the English language so just fill in the blanks with expletives. It may be generational but have you ever watched Casablanca or To Kill a Mockingbird? Tremendous dialogue without a hint of strong language. Bogart is a master of timing and delivery. He can deliver pages of dialogue in one scene. Peck as Aticus Finch delivers a perfect portrayal of Harper Lee's Pulitzer prize winning masterpiece of a small southern town and childhood. These are actors and this is great film.
Fair enough... there is a plethora of cursing.
Curiously he refrains from nudity... I don't think I've seen a boob in one of his films.
